Suggestions for Hive balance and flavor
After playing Hive a lot, I find that the factions lacks tools in its kit for most of the game.
A bug faction should have slows/nets, poison on the ground, swift strike, burrows, etc… They have none of those abilities until the Queen is unlocked and upgraded.
In the early and mid-game, fights are all or nothing. One mistake or one slightly underestimated objectives and the losses are huge. Reavers have a pseudo swift strike, that cost one focus, has a cooldown, and works only for one attack per turn, and that’s enough to make it S tier. Larvae are used to slow the enemy or eat a counter attack, and that also makes them S-tier.
It would be nice to have a way to cast webs to separate enemy stacks, or a unit that borrows itself after receiving a first attack, or even a puddle of poison to force enemy ranges to move. Give those abilities a focus cost, a cooldown, like with reaver and larvae, or a condition like eating a corpse previously. The faction needs mechanic to stabilize. It has no opening ability and no escape besides speed and initiative. But other factions have those just as well. Right now, fights are too much of a coin flip and there is no way to temporise when it goes wrong.
