Incoming Schulich BBA student — confused about orientation and class info

Hi! I’m an incoming international BBA student at Schulich this fall. I’ve enrolled in my courses and paid my deposit, but I’m confused about orientation.
Which orientation events are actually mandatory for first-year BBA students, and where can I find the dates and also the information?
Also, where can I see my class locations and professors? They’re not showing on my schedule yet.
Thanks!

How much high school math do I actually need for the Schulich BBA?

Hi! I’m starting the BBA at Schulich this September and I’m a little worried about the math.
I took Advanced Functions and Calculus & Vectors in Grade 12, but honestly I didn’t learn much from them, especially Calculus & Vectors since I took it online.
For current/graduated Schulich BBA students, will this be a problem throughout the program? Do professors generally teach the math you need for each course, or are you expected to already know Grade 12 Advanced Functions/Calculus?
Is there anything specific you’d recommend reviewing before starting?
Thanks!

International student starting Schulich in September — any advice?

Hi everyone! I’m an international student starting at Schulich this September. I’ve only been in Canada for about 1.5 years and did Grade 12 here, so I’m still pretty unfamiliar with how university works.
I’m especially nervous about the workload and keeping up with readings/assignments since English isn’t my first language. I know university is very different from high school, so I’d really appreciate any advice from current/former Schulich students.
How do you recommend studying and managing your time? Any tips for assignments, using AI appropriately without getting into academic-integrity issues, or just adjusting to university in general?
Also, what are the best clubs/events for meeting people and making friends? Honestly, any tips for first year—academic, social, or anything else—would be really appreciated!

Best A/A+ electives at York?

Hi! I’m a first-year Schulich student looking for an easy 3.0 or 6.0 credit elective where an A/A+ is realistic.
I’m currently enrolled in VISA 1006, but I’m also hoping one of these opens up:
NATS 1760 (Ian Slater)
MUSI 1530
PSYC 1010 (Alisha Salerno)
SOWK 2020 (Curt Pullan)
STS 3725 (Ian Slater)
STS 3730 (Ian Slater)
I’ve seen mixed reviews for most of these. If any of them are actually difficult, writing-heavy, or have professors to avoid, I’d really appreciate your thoughts. Any other GPA-friendly elective recommendations are welcome too. Thanks!

Incoming Schulich Student: Best Non-Business Electives + Any First-Year Advice?

Hi everyone!
I’m starting the Schulich BBA program in Fall 2026, and honestly, I’m already a little stressed about first year.
I need to take an extra 6 credits of non-business electives, and since I’m an international student who’s probably going to specialize in Finance, I’m trying to protect my GPA with my life.
So… what are the easiest, most GPA-friendly non-business courses you’d recommend? Is it better to take two 3-credit courses or one 6-credit course?
Also, if you have any random Schulich survival tips, things you wish you knew in first year, professors to avoid, clubs to join, or literally any advice for a stressed first-year student, please share. I’m already low-key panicking and classes haven’t even started yet. 🥲
Thanks in advance!

DET in 3–4 days. Currently around 125. Any advice to reach 130?

Hi everyone,
I’m taking the Duolingo English Test in about 3–4 days, and based on my recent practice tests, I think I’m currently around the 125 level.
My teacher believes I can probably get 125, but we’re not very confident about reaching 130 yet.
My strongest section is writing. My weaker sections are speaking and reading, especially speaking. Sometimes I struggle with fluency, organization, and making small grammar mistakes while speaking under time pressure.
Given that I only have a few days left, what would you focus on if your goal was to move from 125 to 130?
More full practice tests?
Speaking drills?
Reading practice?
Vocabulary review?
Something else?
I’d especially appreciate advice from people who improved from around 120–125 to 130+ in a short period of time.
Thanks!

Anyone go from 120 to 130+ on DET? I need 130 by June 15.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking for some advice. I need a 130 on the Duolingo English Test and I only have 14 days left before my next attempt. I’ve already taken the test twice and got 120 both times. My strongest skill is writing (around 130–135), but my speaking is usually between 110–120 and my reading is around 110–115.

Has anyone here managed to go from 120 to 130+ in a short period of time? If so, what made the biggest difference for you? Did you follow a specific study plan, work with a tutor, or focus on certain question types? I’m ready to study intensively over the next two weeks, but I want to make sure I’m focusing on the right things. Any advice or success stories would be greatly appreciated!🤍🫶🏻

Need 130 on Duolingo by June 1

Hey everyone,
I need to get 130 on the Duolingo English Test for university, and my deadline is June 1.
I’ve done the practice test around 4–5 times recently, and I keep getting 120–130. I know I probably need to be getting 130–140 in practice to feel safer for the real test.
My biggest weakness is Reading, and then Speaking. I’m honestly getting pretty stressed because I don’t have much time left.
If anyone here managed to go from around 120–130 to 130+ in a short time, what actually helped you? Any tips, resources, or study routine for Reading and Speaking would be really helpful.
Thanks a lot🫶🏻
