Tl;dr the necromancer needs buffs and I want to get your ideas and have you check mine.
When the summoner and necromancer got announced, I knew that one of my players would want to play it immediately. I love the idea behind the class and subclasses, however, I'm worried it's going to feel a bit underwhelming for them. Especially at lower levels. Their whole subclass at level 1 being you can make a spellcast roll to deal 5 damage is needless to say kinda a joke. Most level one weapons and spells out class this immediately and to add to that this is also basically the whole class feature too. I doubt they'll even use shambling corps the moment they realize. They'll opt to use the fate spirit and be kinda disappointed with the class. The second issue, when they're already down in the dirt because of level 1-4 level 5 will kick them while they're already down +1 evasion and a spellcast roll to mark a stress... That's just sad honestly. The death Knight while not terrible like the rest won't be redeeming this class/sub class and this player will never want to play again at that point.
Buffs I'm thinking of:
Shambling corps: the first 2 corps don't count towards your cap. This means 3 at level 1 (max 15 damage) strong but not overwhelming. 12 at level 10 (max 60 damage) good, but not too good by then. And it takes a bit to build to the max damage, so they can't spam it. Also they get to control a little army at low levels.
Ghosts:
I think if you didn't have to do a spell cast roll (or could even use as a reaction right before an event rolls to attack you) terror might be good and really cool. I would like it to give disadvantage or something like that to enemies. You'd have to decide if you want to keep your last ghost for the evasion or give them disadvantage on that attack
Death Knight
Let him take 1 hit point whenever
Do you think these buffs will be strong enough to get my player to love the necromancer, better encapsulate the feel of being a necromancer, and make them strong enough to be viable? If not what changes would you suggest?
Sorry if this is an odd question, I'm new to spirit island and I'm wondering if I get horizons or not. I already ordered the base game (I probably should've posted this before doing that) but it hasn't shown up yet.
The main reason I'm considering getting horizons is because I want to combine the board and the base boards to make a 6-7 player game and I'm wondering if that's actually possible.
If that's not the case, the second reason is that (just from looking at pictures) horizons tokens and settlers look cooler and more clear to me than the base game. Idk if I actually want the 3d figures as they read less clear on the board to me, and I like the look of the horizon pieces. So are there enough pieces in horizons to fully replace the 3d figures and blight tokens, and are those pieces high quality or cheap feeling.
Tldr;
Is it possible to combine horizons and the base game for a larger game. Does horizons have enough tokens to fully replace base game tokens. Are the horizon tokens high quality, or cheaply made.
