Stegastein viewpoint: better at 8 AM or 8 PM in late June?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently planning a public transport round trip through Norway this June, and I’ll be staying in Flåm from June 23-24.

I’ll arrive on the afternoon of June 23 by the Flåm Railway and continue at midday on June 24 by boat to Gudvangen, so I already have the two main highlights around Flåm covered with my arrival and departure.

During my short stay, I’d also like to visit the Stegastein viewpoint, as I’ve read that there otherwise isn’t that much to see in Flåm itself besides large numbers of cruise ship passengers.

I’ve read that Stegastein can get very crowded during the day in summer, so I’m considering either taking the first tour at 8:00 in the morning or the last one around 20:00 in the evening.

Does anyone have experience with these times?
Which option would you recommend in terms of crowds and overall visibility/lighting conditions? For example, is one of the times better for photos or less affected by direct sunlight?

Sony RX100M7A Wi-Fi / Smartphone connection instantly aborts

Hi everyone,

I just got a new Sony RX100M7A and I cannot get any smartphone/Wi-Fi functionality to work.

Whenever I try either:

  • “Send to Smartphone” or
  • “Ctrl w/ Smartphone”

the following happens:

  1. “Checking image database file” appears
  2. “Wi-Fi standby” appears
  3. screen turns on and off again
  4. the lens retracts and extends again
  5. the camera returns to shooting mode

The important part:

  • no SSID is ever shown on the camera
  • no Sony/DIRECT Wi-Fi network appears on my phone
  • Imaging Edge Mobile cannot find the camera

I already tried:

  • full settings reset / initialize
  • SSID/password reset
  • removing battery for several minutes

On my old RX100M3, the camera immediately displayed an SSID and password, so this behavior feels wrong.

Is this normal behavior for the RX100 VIIA or does it sound like a defective Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module?

Hi everyone,

I’ll be arriving in Ålesund Airport on June 27, 2026, at 15:05 with a flight from Bergen. Looking at the bus schedule, the next bus leaves at 15:25, and the following one at 16:40.

Do you think it’s realistic to make the 15:25 bus after landing, or should I play it safe and book the later one? I’d appreciate any insights from locals or fellow travelers who’ve been in a similar situation.
