How to get to Oslo city center from Oslo airport on 2.00 AM and later?

Hey everyone,

I’m quite excited since I have a flight to Oslo tomorrow night. My flight will arrive on 01.50 AM (24th May, Sunday). I checked the train and bus hours and couldn’t find any around that time. I know that a taxi ride will be expensive since I’m alone so I like to know your suggestions 🙏🏻

Europcar Phonenumber

I Rented a Car at Oslo aurport with Europcar.
My question is, do i have to pay Road tolls, Parking or Ferry tickets on the correaponding apps or do i get a bill at the end from Europcar?

I Cant reach any of the phone numbers provided by Europcar and can‘t find anything online. E mail adresses dont work and it just feels like this company does not exist here.

Transportation Guidance | Bergen to Lofoten

I was hoping for some advice.

Background Info:

We arrive in Bergen, Norway, on August 1st. From August 4th to 7th, we have a sailing trip scheduled in Lofoten and then we fly back home from Bergen on the 11th.

After the sailing trip, the plan is to drive back casually to Bergen. We plan to car camp / stay in huts along the way.

2 Main Questions:

  1. How do we get to Lofoten from Bergen? I know you can fly, but is there any public transportation options? Any ferries or trains?

  2. Can we rent a car in Lofoten and drop it off in Bergen? I would really like to avoid renting a car for the whole time we are there, especially since we won't be using it for three days, and I have no idea where I could park it safely for that long.

Any help would be appreciated!

Food on the oslo > bergen train

Hello everyone

I'm taking the oslo to bergen train in a few days and I'm beyond excited! I really love trains in general, even more with such beautiful views.

Was wondering if there is sufficient food options on the train during the trip or if I should pack enough food for 7 hours. And if yes, is the food available super expensive or accessible?

Thank you!

Norway Beers

Bit of a random one, but my wife and I are going to Norwegian Fjords later in the year. Hoping for some Norwegian help here. We are due to stop at Stavanger, Haugesund, Olden and Alesund.

I like my IPA, Craft beers and a good stout. I'm Irish and love my Guinness but don't travel to Norway to sit in an Irish bar having one. I'm just curious if there are are any bars in particular that people would recommend in any of these stops and if so any particular Norwegian Beers that are a must try?

Skagefla Help Needed!

Hello! I am headed to Norway in July and will be staying in Alesund for a few days. I'd really like to go to Geiranger and do the Skagefla hike but am having trouble figuring out logistics.

Public Transportation: Seems like the best option until you start worrying about not making it back in time to catch public transport back to Alesund and then being stuck!

Rental Car: I don't really want to rent a car because I know I will need to load it onto a ferry still and that whole process freaks me out (I've never done it).

Is the hike worth the headache or should I opt for tour? I'm doing a kayak tour out of Bergen days earlier so not sure if another kayak tour would hit the same. Maybe boat tour? Unsure.

If anyone has thoughts on what I should do please let me know!

Norway trip: Base camp style instead of roadtrip

Hi! The first time in Norway really needs to happen at some point. I already found Scotland and Iceland absolutely beautiful. But when I see photos of Norway, wow 🤩

I'd love to go camping, but unfortunately my body just isn't up for camping right now. Hopefully again in a few years, but for now it is what it is. If I also want to do some hiking, camping is a no-go for the time being.

Luckily there are still plenty of little cabins to find in Norway. The only thing is, I'm hesitating. A road trip is obviously the most logical option, since everything is beautiful. At the same time, we've noticed that we actually want to stay at 2 different places for a week as a "base camp" and from there do some day trips, and sometimes maybe just take it easy, read a book, fully unwind, and not have to pack up all the time. So the accommodation will be my home, with a view and to relax.

But is that even doable — day trips? Precisely because everything is so spread out. So maybe it's actually a really silly idea and I'd be better off finding an extra accommodation instead.

The Bergen and Stavanger area obviously appealed to me, but in terms of affordable cabins, my eye also fell on Telemark. We can take the ferry from Denmark and go with our own car, so we could start in Bergen or Stavanger and leave from Kristiansand or Larvik

On one hand I think "everything in Norway is so beautiful, I actually prefer the less touristy spots," but on the other hand it feels like it's just not quite right somehow.

So — is having a base camp of 2 x one week not a smart plan, and would I be better off saving this trip for later when a road trip is back on the table?

Norway/Lofoten end of Aug/start of Sep - advice please 💖

We are planning a trip to Norway around the end of August/start of September (approximately 2 weeks) with our then 9 month old baby. Usually I research holidays pretty thoroughly- but because of said baby that’s kinda difficult this time. We were thinking Lofoten and kinda stuck between renting a small camper for at least some part of the holidays or staying in cozy airbnbs while renting a car. Money is definitely also relevant, we‘d be grocery shopping and cooking mostly.

For now, I only found flights Tromso/Tromso (29.8-12.9) or arrival in Evenes, departure Tromso (24.8-5.9) - is it realistic to arrive in Evenes, visit Lofoten, then drive up to Tromso? We don’t want to take any connecting flights. Ideally we‘d drive to Norway, but we just don’t have enough holidays to do that unfortunately. If its possible: What stops/things to see should we definitely consider along the way? We def. would like to do some hikes and enjoy nature (but reasonably so, as we’ll have to backpack carry our baby) Also, if it could make sense to go over the border to sweden or finnland for a quick stop, we‘d also be interested in that - where would you recommend? Is it usually allowed to that in a rental?

The idea isn’t to pack as much as possible into it - even though I’m kinda tempted to do so :D but I figure that we can’t see everything this beautiful country has to offer anyways, so that’s that. I‘m aware that weather is very unpredictable and that we need some flexibility to adjust plans depending on it.

Any advice would be appreciated :) also just to make it clear: it’s very important to us to be respectful when visiting a country and we are aware that Norwegians are understandably not so appreciative of tourists renting campers or cars. My partner is a very experienced driver (we‘re Swiss, mountains etc.) and we really don’t want to negatively impact!

Currency??

Hi all! I’m traveling from US in a few days and read that Norway is almost entirely cashless and to just use my credit cards. Should i bother going to the currency exchange ahead of time? Or just use an ATM when I land?

Best app for hiking in Norway (Lofoten) ?

Hello,

I was wondering what the best app is for planning hikes in the Lofoten Islands.

I’m mainly looking for:

- Detailed trail information, not just the most well-known hikes

- Accurate GPS tracking, even in flight mode

I could pay, but if there’s a free option, all the better!

Thank you very much !

Critique my upcoming camping trip

My kid and I are fairly avid campers and usually do one big international trip every year. This year (July) will be Norway. Right now we're got three camping locations planned with four nights each, then 3 nights in Oslo at the end before flying home.

We've got an overnight flight that lands in Oslo at about 0630. I've got a vehicle reserved from Getaround. We'll be bringing our tent and pretty much all of our gear on the flight with us, but I will need to buy a cooler, so I'll buy one somewhere in Oslo, then we'll get on the road.

Our first stop is on Lake Tinnsjø, at Sandviken Camping. This is already booked. We'll do some local hikes, swim in the lake, rent paddle boats, etc... Maybe check out the little water park nearby in Rjukan. I'm also looking at either hiking or taking the train up Gaustatoppen.

Stop 2 is in Sogndal, at Kjørnes Camping. This is first come first served, but I spoke with them and they said as long as I'm there before 1400 I'll get a spot no issue, and if I'm going to be later than that, just text them and they'll hold a spot for me. We'll do some more hikes, maybe check out the Urnes stave church, play in the water, rent bikes, check out the town of Sogndal, and other miscellaneous stuff.

It looks like the drive from Rjukan and Sogndal will involve taking the Mannheller-Fodnes ferry. Is this pretty straightforward? It looks like they run pretty frequently and are not expensive. Do they ever fill up with cars before everyone can get on?

Stop 3 is Geiranger. We'd be staying at either Geiranger Camping or Geirangerfjorden. The former is right in town, although it seems a bit plain, just an empty plot of land with no shade. The later is a couple kms outside of town, but looks like it has more to do, including renting boats and a playground. Both of these are first come first served, but we arrive on a Sunday, so hopefully there will be a free spot Activities would include more hiking, doing a boat tour of the fjord, and maybe doing the Trollstigen drive.

Then we'll head back to Oslo. I've got an Airbnb booked in Grünerløkka for three nights. We'll return the car as I don't plan on needing it while in Oslo. We don't really have any plans for Oslo yet, just generally checking out the city.

One of the big differences between American and Norwegian campgrounds that I'm seeing has to do with cooking. In the US cooking facilities are not provided, and you bring your own travel grill and any necessary cookware and utensils. It looks like at these campgrounds, there are communal buildings with shared appliances like stoves and ovens for preparing food. I've never seen a setup like that before, but it sounds nice and it saves me from having to buy a grill and accessories while I'm there.

I know July can be hit or miss with the rain, so we'll have our fingers crossed that we luck out with sunshine, but will have some indoor activities planned in case of inclement weather.

Anyway any input, tips, activity suggestions, etc... is appreciated!

Hi I'm traveling to Norway in September 9/8 - 9/18. Are there any recommended activities that I should book in advance?

I'll be flying out to Bergen, then road tripping up to Alesund (staying at Loen and Geiranger along the way), then flying out to Oslo, then finally back to Bergen via Norway in a Nutshell. Any recommendations for this trip? Open to all kinds of suggestions. Thanks!

Oslo to Stockholm train. How early do I need to get there?

Hi, I have had a lovely day in Oslo but will sadly be leaving for Stockholm in the morning.
I’m booked on the 11:46. How early do I need to be at the station? There’s no border control or anything is there?
I’m sure I’m asking a stupid question, but I come from
The UK where are border controls are needlessly extensive, so just want to be sure. Takk

Norway rental

Hey👋 , so we’re trynna book a rental car through hertz and it’s 400 dollars. now the tax is 211$ that incudes sales tax, handling etc. It’s without the tolls and everything so we’re pretty confused why it’s so much. It’s an ev and we’re picking it up and dropping it off at Evenes Airport

Olso travel advice

So my boyfriend and I are visiting Oslo this week and I really want to soak in all the culture, nature, history that I can get. I thought it would be best to ask people who maybe have already been there or live there.

Therefore I’m asking, do any of you have must have places to visit, cool hiking routes, amazing restaurants, shops, activities, sights? Just any hidden spot that only locals know about? Preferably low budget but honestly I’m taking anything I can get.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations

4-day Bergen-Flam-Geiranger trip: Can I do it without car rental

Looking to plan this Trip:
Day 1: Arrive Bergen

Day 2: Bergen → Flåm = Future of the Fjords cruise + Stegastein viewpoint (question, if not Flam, then where can I get the cruise from?)

Day 3: Flåm → Geiranger. Ideally would like to rent a car but the one-way fees are killing me. Public transport doesn't seem viable?

Day 4: Dalsnibba Skywalk + RIB Fjordsafari Geirangerfjord . Bus to Ålesund

Day 5: Alesund exit. I am happy to find another airport to leave but this seems closest? Flying to Germany next
