Need advice for college devices!

I'm entering into college this year, and from my seniors i've heard that a laptop is a must for our specific course

I have two options with their setbacks

First : I buy a gaming laptop at around 1.3-1.5L, this option is great for me as i really want to still enjoy games whilst in college, as i wont get many chances to use my PC (at home)

But the main drawback here, as i've been told by some friends is -- gaming laptops battery is shitty, aren't very portable and feel clunky to carry around in college / you always need a charger and the laptop is very bulky in itself

Second option : I buy a macbook around 1L and get a cracked nintendo switch (max to max 30k), this is fine too as you can still play some shit on Mac so i wont be completely socially isolated (minecraft and what not)

The main drawback here is : Nintendo is great, but the switch 1 is old asf now and only does 30 frames per second, and i'm more into stuff like valo/apex/fortnite

So what should I do here? Are gaming laptops really that terrible for college? Or is it adjustable??

Peeps in college please help me out!

mcq cutoff is fucking my mental health up atp

got 32 in mcq, cutoff could go to 33

genuinely cant sleep at night thinking about this, especially when im clearing all the other cutoffs by a margin

cant focus on anything, cant enjoy anything without thinking about this every 30-40 minutes and it ruins the next 15-20 minutes, it gets way worse as the day progresses -- to where i can't think about anything else literally from 1 am to 4-5 am

i'm trying to work on a lot of skills + JIPMAT right now, and I can no longer concentrate -- I end up spending most of my time trying to distract myself from thinking about anything at all, whether that'd be playing high stimuli games or talking to loads of people at the same time

My biggest blunder? I told my mom that haan hojayega interview call, because i didn't think predicted (ik its still predicted but) would go above 31ish

I don't know how i'd ever break the news to her, i've never made her feel proud as such and this was the only time she did, what would i even tell her the day cutoff comes out as 33? I wouldn't even want to show her my face nor exist in a world where thats the case

Update on the probability calculator!

Reddit keeps removing and reinstating the post (no clue why but it just does

Can’t do much about it going down, probably something related to the url as it’s free

Regardless, the point of the post was to test for errors — and since it’s creating a lot of panic amongst students, i’ll just leave the post coming back up to fate!

If anyone is really interested in visiting the site, i have it in the bio of my discord : titanalt_0001

and also in the bio of this reddit account

Thank you!

IPMAT Admission Probability Calculator : A tool for aspirants to analyse their position and find out how much they need to score in their interview!

http://chanceme.ipmatexam.com

Hi everyone! After I made a post on reddit about how one could manually analyze how many marks they need to score in their interview to get into their dream college, my DMs were bombarded with aspirants confused about the calculations, their odds of scoring that high and so on.

Since I already had all the formulas/cutoff data for these IIMs, I decided to create a tool for the same! You can enter your marks/overall ATS, choose your gender and category -- and you'll receive the exact interview score you would've needed last year to make it in!

Please note : ALL of the probabilities (for example : 43% chance of getting in to xyz college) are firstly ESTIMATES, the accuracy of each calculator is given above, and most importantly, the probabilities are LOWBALLS.

I've given LOWBALLS as I don't want to sell fake hopes to anyone!

telling someone they're not gonna get in and them cursing you > ruining someone's career because you made them complacent

And I myself am just an aspirant, and this was the first time i've tried to create a website or anything in that domain! This was just a fun little project to add to my ECAs. Would love any constructive feedback, and DM me for suggestions!

Thank you!

EDIT : For ranchi, do NOT pay much attention to the probability, Look at the interview score needed, and keep that in mind!

How to identify your current position/standing for IIMs through IPMAT Indore 2026 scores.

IIM Indore :

General - 60.39564

EWS - 45.48932

NC-OBC - 41.01455

SC - 28.39172

ST - 22.26582

General-PwD - 40.28481

EWS-PwD - 17.79226

NC-OBC-PwD - 17.62162

These are the LOWEST COMPOSITE scores given offers to in the year 2025.

Now what does that mean? In IIM Indore, you have 65% weightage to ATS, and 35% for interview. You can get an estimate of your ATS by putting your 2026 marks into a 2025 calculator, and then doing ±2 (take both extremes for a holistic view)

So, for example if I as a general male have 60 ATS

60x0.65 = 39

Now, since the general cutoff is 60.3, I need 60.3 - 39 = 21.3/35 in my interview which is approximately a 60% in my interview

How easy or hard is that? My guess is as good as yours -- but i have seen scores of 6-7/35, and 32-33/35 from previous RTIs.

Now since you understand how that works,

IIM Ranchi :

General - 68.56919

EWS - 58.59633

NC-OBC - 58.35505

SC - 48.34965

ST - 43.89633

Here, take your total score, divide it by 360, and multiply it by 0.65 (im not sure but i think this is how they take ATS)

Then 20% is for your past acads (aggregate) -

SSC (Class 10) Points

90% - 8

85% & < 90% - 6

80% & < 85% - 4

75% & < 80% - 2

70% & < 75% - 0

65% & < 70% - 0

< 65% - 0

HSC (Class 12) Points

90% - 12

85% & < 90% - 10

80% & < 85% - 8

75% & < 80% - 6

70% & < 75% - 4

65% & < 70% - 2

< 65% - 0

The remaining 15% is for your interview.

And +5% for females.

So for example - GEN Male - 200/360 90%/85%

200/360 x 0.65 x 100 = ≈ 36

For past acads

10th = 8

12th = 10

Now, I have a total of 36+8+10 = 54

Since the general cutoff is 68, i need a 14/15 in my interview to get into the programme, hard? Yes. Impossible? No.

If the same profile belonged to a female 54+5 = 59, therefore they would only need 9/15 in the interview.

IIM Amritsar :

Edit : There seems to be something im missing with amritsar ka composite score, it doesnt make sense so im removing the composite scores and only keeping in the ats calculation for amritsar here for now, will update when i get something clearer

Edit 2 : I found out that Amritsar's ATS uses the min and max scores for the candidates they have shortlisted, not for Indore, therefore, the minimum scores are probably close to 0/0/40 for Amritsar, and i would say the max would be 56/65/150 (don't ask me how i got this)

You're free to calculate your ATS using this by the given formula

Quantitative Ability (MCQ) Score:
((Candidate's Score - Minimum Score) / (Maximum Score - Minimum Score)) * 30

Quantitative Ability (SA) Score:
((Candidate's Score - Minimum Score) / (Maximum Score - Minimum Score)) * 30

Verbal Ability (MCQ) Score:
((Candidate's Score - Minimum Score) / (Maximum Score - Minimum Score)) * 40

Total ATS Score: (QA MCQ Score) + (QA SA Score) + (Verbal Score)

Composite cutoffs = (EWS is the only one I have, and the others will be based off this)

EWS = 54.5
General = 63 (approx)
OBC-NCL = 49.5 to 54 (approx)

ATS = 70%

Interview = 25%

Gender diversity = 5%

Multiply calculated ATS by (0.7 for 70% conversion)

Since you already have 2 example and are IPMAT aspirants, I hope everyone can estimate their chances here on their own without assistance.

Thank you! will post another one for sirmaur/shillong once I find more RTIs on reddit!

Also, if anyone here knows their interview scores, please drop them in the comments to help other aspirants analyze their positions better!

Predicted cutoffs for all categories!

Since Bhavesh bhaiya has given us 2 methodologies for predicting the cutoff, just to lower the headache for me, ill be taking the mean of both the methodologies for these cutoffs!

General :
SA - 24
MCQ - 30±3
VA - 111±6

Now for all the categories -- the main issue here is estimating how much lower the cutoffs are than general, however i've noticed an interesting pattern between general and category ke cutoff disparities based on the difficulty - which i'm not so sure of yet, but I tried to integrate here for the highest accuracy.

That being said, here are my predictions

EWS :
SA - 16
MCQ - 20±3
VA - 86±6

OBC-NCL :
SA - 12
MCQ - 17±3
VA - 76±6

SC :
SA - 12
MCQ - 11±3
VA - 61±6

ST :
SA - 8
MCQ - 6±3
VA - 43±6

PWD :
SA - 8
MCQ - 5±3
VA - 42±6

Unlike bhaiya, who was being very safe with what he predicts, which is because he's a big name and children will come running to him crying if the cutoff goes higher, No one's gonna run to me if this predicted is wrong -- hence i've used values which are more realistic/lower (according to me at least) so do factor that in!

Thank you!

(i was bored)

Please let me know which options you ticked in these two :

one was something philosphical / metaphorical about bees, comparing them with humans and how they simulated something amongst bees

one option had "exploit" in the ending

one option had "modern society" in it

one had "collection"

one had "community"

second was something about students not paying attention in class, and the teacher trying to involve themselves

one option had "withdrawn" and "indifferent" in it

please let me know which ones you chose and if you remember any other options!

thanks!
