What's one thing you wish you knew before closing on a house?
When I was getting ready to close on my house, I honestly thought the difficult part was behind me. I had already found a place, completed the inspection, handled the paperwork, and finalized the financing. I assumed closing day was simply about signing a few documents and picking up the keys.
Looking back, I wish I had known how many expenses and responsibilities begin the moment you become a homeowner. Utility transfers, small repairs that seemed insignificant during the walkthrough, property taxes, insurance updates, and routine maintenance all started adding up much sooner than I expected.
Another lesson was realizing that putting every dollar into the purchase isn't always the best move. Keeping an emergency fund after closing can make those first few months a lot less stressful.
While I was researching the home-buying process, I came across some useful information on that helped me understand a few things I had overlooked. I still think there's no substitute for hearing from people who have actually been through it.
