DC charger only delivered 20kW - trying to understand why.

I have a BYD Atto 1. It has a max charging draw of 85kW (DC). Today I pulled into the Evie charging bays at Sunshine Plaza in Queensland. The DC charger there is rated at 150kW.

My car was at 44% and according to the DC charging curve that I have, at 44% it should be pulling the theoretical max of 85kW.

However, for the entire time I was plugged in, it never delivered above 20kW.

There was a Polestar plugged into the other plug on the same charging station, and they were drawing 45kW.

Does anyone have any idea why I only drew a paltry 20kW? I should've been able to get near the theoretical maximum or not? What am I misunderstanding about how DC chargers work?

Thanks!

Length of neck on Fender Vintera III

Hi, this is probably going to seem like an odd question, but, if anyone has one of the newish Fender Vintera III Bass VI basses, would you be able to measure the length of the neck?

By this I mean from the heel of the fretboard to the tip of the headstock. In other words, if I were to unscrew the neck from the bass, how long is that separate neck part.

To be clear, I'm not interested in the scale length or anything like that, I need to know how long the actual physical neck component is when it's unscrewed from the body.

Thanks in advance!

Looking for advice on alternative aftermarket gas struts for car boot

I am in Australia and have a 2026 BYD Atto 1 EV. I hope that information is actually irrelevant to the rest of this question though. There is nothing wrong with the current gas struts in the boot of the car, but I need to replace them with struts that have a much shorter extended length. With the current struts, when the boot is open it is far too high for my very short Mum to reach. I am therefore looking for alternative struts that don't open nearly so far.

The current struts are SUSPA brand, and the part information on the strut is as follows:

"TYP 16-2 016 70962 620N 065/26 11"

Googling has told me that those struts have an 8mm rod diameter and an 18.5mm cylinder diameter and exert 620N of force. The ball diameter is 10mm. The fully extended length of these struts is approx 440mm measured ball to ball.

I'd like to replace them with struts whose fully extended length is no more than 380mm.

I have found struts here in Australia with the following properties:

8/18 cylinder/rod diameters, 375mm fully extended and a 600N rating. The same strut is also available with a 650N rating.

So here comes my question - would these aftermarket struts work as drop in replacements for the current struts? And if so, would it be better to get the 600N or the 650N? I worry the 650N ones might be too "heavy" for my Mum to close, but then would the 600N ones not be strong enough to keep the boot open?

Look for any and all advice as to what you can and can't do with replacement struts.

Scrap metal merchants on the northside (looking for recommendations)

Hi, I'm in the process of emptying out a house, and I've accumulated a pile of scrap metal of various types.

I'd like to try and sell it to a scrap metal merchant and am looking for any recommendations for where to go on the Northside. I know I won't make a fortune with this, just looking for somewhere that will give me a fair and honest price for it.

I tried contacting one place and they wanted photos (which I sent) and for me to weigh it all before they'd even tell me if they would accept it. I can't weigh anything, there are no scales here anymore! Is there somewhere where I can just turn up with a boot load of scrap?

Thanks in advance.
