My feature wishlist after 6 months of Matic (pic related)

My feature wishlist after 6 months of Matic (pic related)

Now that Matic Cues are out, we should let the dev team rest, right? Wrong, I want them to keep cooking. Seems to me like the perfect time to ask for MORE.

I’ve been running my Matic for about 6 months and while I’m super impressed, I do have a list of features I'd like to see rolled out some time.

Most important:

- I hope to see alternatives to Aunt Fannie's. This one is huge for me. A lot of the ingredients in Aunt Fannie's aren't pet safe and despite what Aunt Fannie says I don't trust the ingredients even if they are really diluted. I have a cat with some health issues and I don't want to risk it. I've just been mopping with filtered water for now.

- Let us run or skip schedules ad-hoc. I have my schedules all dialed in, but it'd be nice to just tap a routine to trigger it whenever (like running my bathroom clean on demand) without editing the schedule. One of my routines runs while I'm usually at the gym and it'd be helpful if I could skip the routine easily if I'm also skipping the gym.

- Bigger run history maps. Sometimes I get a notification that a room was partially cleaned because something was in the way, but it's hard to tell where it actually went because the run history map in the app is tiny. If I could zoom in or expand it it'd be much easier to tell where it went.

Nice-to-haves:

- Having the bot lightly push or adjust doors so it can grab the dust bunnies that always pile up behind them.

- A private stats page. I want to see how many miles it's driven, how many bags I've used, and my cleaning time, etc...

- A true night mode to turn off the dock light and the screen light.

Bonus wishlist:

- Let me hold my Matic like Rafiki holds Simba so it can get a top-down view of my home. The 3D rendering of my home is awesome but it feels a little incomplete when there's just a void where my couch is. If I could Rafiki my Matic for a mapping session then it could have a more complete model of my home.

- Let me drive my Matic around and control it with an Xbox controller. I'm too old for RC cars but maybe it feels more justifiable playing with my Matic if it was vacuuming at the same time.

- Being able to check the camera feed in the app just to see the world from Matic's POV and check in on my pets/home while away.

- I want to be able to use my Matic's name as an activation word instead of Hey Matic.

P.S. If you don't have a Matic yet, don't let my wishlist discourage you. It's still the best robovac and app I've ever used. If you're buying one soon, make sure to use a referral link to get the free bag pass. The only Matic review you need to read

Finally, a review for the $50 Matic Builder kit.

When I bought my Matic 6 months ago, the promotion at the time was for the annual bag pass (which has been awesome), but I was definitely a bit jealous a few months later when they instead started bundling Matics with the Lego kits. A couple weeks ago I was ordering some spare accessories and on an impulse decided to add the builder kit to my cart. I put it together last night, and since I haven't seen a review on here for it yet, here you go.

Specs:

  • 87 pieces
  • Roughly 3.75" x 1.75" x 2.5" when finished, ballparked with a tape measure, so don't quote me on that
  • Took about 15 minutes to build and was pretty easy, even for someone though I haven't touched a Lego set in 20 years.

Pros:

  • It’s a nice box and it feels like they gave this the same care and attention that they put into the real robot and box.
  • Instructions were clear and very easy to follow.
  • Buying/building this was a fun excuse to play with some Legos for the first time in decades.
  • The little Matic is pretty cute and does look like the real thing.

Cons:

  • It can’t clean my desk.
  • It’s $50 which is steep for what’s basically a charming gimmick.

I’m a big fan of my real Matic, but I can’t really recommend this for anyone who isn't a superfan unless maybe you have a kid who is obsessed with your actual Matic and needs a distraction. At $25, it’d be an easy buy, but $50 is a bit too much for 87 pieces.

In their defense, Mehul addressed the pricing in a thread a while back:

”…just so you know this is where we are paying regular prices for each piece from Lego, hand assembling them (as each part comes separately), and had to create our own instructions. Hence, it’s been labor of love and price allows us to break even. 🤗😊”

But while I appreciate the effort and love that went into making it, it's still just too much money.

That said, I would def recommend the real Matic robot. It’s been a phenomenal upgrade over my old Roomba and is actually worth every penny. If you’re thinking about getting one, feel free to use my referral link below to get the bag pass included for free. I have a cat that's been shedding all summer long, so not worrying about bag costs has been a great. Full disclosure though, I might spend any referral credits on more legos.

tl;dr Real Matic worth the money, Lego Matic not so much.

Stable 171 (2026/08/06)

Two updates in one week? They're cooking

https://maticrobots.com/blog/matic-release-notes/

Software Updates:

  • Faster Room-to-Room Cleaning: Path planning between rooms is now up to 2× faster, so Matic spends less time thinking and more time cleaning, especially when starting a session from the dock.

  • Smoother Mopping: Matic now correctly recognizes when it's genuinely stuck while mopping and recovers on its own, without falsely pausing during normal mopping turns.

  • Smarter Room Boundaries: Matic now draws more accurate room boundaries on your map, and when boundaries update, your schedules automatically carry over instead of needing to be recreated.

  • More Reliable Jam Alerts: Fixed an issue where a brush jam during a manually started clean could leave Matic waiting silently instead of letting you know.

App Updates:

iOS

  • Live Cleaning Activities: Follow Matic's progress right from the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island, see what it's cleaning, and how far along it is without opening the app.

What hardware version do you have and when did you buy?

I saw in my app that my Matic is hardware version 09d. I bought it in April 2026.

I'm curious what other version numbers are out there and if anyone has a more recent one.

Seems like even though there's one official model, they're always making subtle iterations to the hardware.

So far I've seen mentions in this subreddit of changes to the water tank cap so that the cartridges are replaceable the and the squeegee tool, not sure what else has changed between versions.

Matic is quiet enough for a cat nap, literally.

My cat is so unbothered by my Matic that she's just sleeping peacefully while my home is getting cleaned. Love it.

Also I'm definitely appreciating the bag pass with how much she's shedding this summer. If anyone is snagging a Matic soon definitely use someone's referral code for the free bags. Mine is here: https://referrals.maticrobots.com/maticrobots/u/MaticPromos?s=sp&t=cp&sub=maticrobots

I had an old Roomba before I got the Matic and this has been such a huge upgrade. I work from home and having something that's quiet enough to run while I'm in zoom meetings is so nice.
