Checking in at the one-week mark. Regularly drank 2-3 cups a day for about 25 years until a week ago, when I gave it up cold turkey to try to ease stress/anxiety and IBS type symptoms. So far, things have been mixed. For the first five days or so I actually felt pretty good -- headache and fatigue for sure, but my GI system felt more normal than it has in at least a decade (and I didn't get super constipated like I expected), and anxiety definitely calmed down noticeably. Sleep didn't really change much -- still able to fall asleep pretty easily at night, still startled awake at 5 a.m. every morning with a crazy cortisol spike.

The past two days have felt like a little bit of a backslide. Headache and fatigue are still present but lessening, but sleep has gotten worse -- waking up even earlier than usual -- and any GI improvement is totally gone -- my gut is going wild in all sorts of strange and unusual ways. Anxiety has also ticked up a bit, though not quite as bad as before. My stress/anxiety has, over the years, tracked pretty consistently with GI issues, so the worse those get the worse the anxiety tends to be, and vice versa.

I'm not naive enough to think progress will be fast or totally linear so I'm hanging in there, but these past two days have been a bit discouraging.
