Idee: PUBG - Geister-Modus

Regel-Zusammenfassung:

Character chat experience (world building)

Hey, I'm relative new and got a pro account one month ago. I wanted to test the character chat and want to share some experiences.

At the beginning I just startet to experiment with different characters and small world building. But then later on I started a bigger project. I wanted to create a whole RPG universe (mix between Solo Leveling, Fire Force, MHA) and see, how good the character-chat can handle this. And I have to say: I'm impressed!

My current character-chat description has 52 pages (some word file) with 40+ characters, 10+ organisations and own fantasy setting in the modern world with own rules, society and power system. There is also a detailed description for my own character (the user) and the narrator (the chat itself). The narrator has all the knowledge about the world and the characters and speaks for them. He also describes the scenes and all the actions, that the user and present characters do.

As models I used at the beginning GLM 4.7 flash, because I thought it is faster and doesn't overthink too much.
But then I switched to GLM 5.1. At first it wrote a little bit strange; short and without proper punctuation. So I had to adjust the narrator writing style definition. It looks better now, but I'm still not satisfied (maybe important to mention: all of this is in German (the GLM 5.2 wrote even worse)). Anyway I still prefer the GLM 5.1 over the flash because it is way more creative. It includes more often random encounters with different characters or more random situations. It feels more lively. For example do I like, that out of the blue some character writes you a text message and mentions some story snippets, that happend. The GLM 4.7 never did this.

At the beginning I had the concern, that the context for all of this will be way to big and that the chat will mess up all the information, I fed to it, but it is way better, than I thought and can really handle all the data and connect them correctly.

Problems:

Of course I noticed different problems. Some are technical and others are organisational.

The biggest problem is, that during a longer session, the chat will forget stuff, that happened. It kind of makes sense. New stories will play out and new characters, that I didn't define, appear and work really well together. But after some time, all this new stuff was forgotten (in the same session) and inconsistent things occurred.

My solution for this was, to extend the character-chat description with new information from the chat sessions manually. New characters, new stories are suddenly part of the backstory of existing characters, new relations between the characters and the user.

And this brings me to my second problem, that is obviously man-made by me: A lot of manually work for the characters and relations between them. I guess that is the small death you have to die, if you want to create a "living" world, where actions have consequences for everything.

My solution with it:

A dynamic part appeared in my word document. Relationship descriptions between each character (just the one, that are relevant) and some type of news-feed. I simulate events like a news feed in social media or news pages. And it is kind of funny, when you add something and update your character-chat and then some in-chat character writes you a text message, that he heard about the last thing, that happened. It feels very lively and delivers a lot of surprises.

I created some chat commands to help me summarize the last events or create a new news feed entry or create a updated description for some relation at the end of a session. That helped to reduce the manual work. But I have still the concern, that this whole character-chat definition becomes to big.

I also have some OOC (out-of-character) chat command to help with creation of updated character profiles and similar stuff. Sometimes I just use it, to ask the system, why it did, what it did. Or give it some extra context, if it forgot something smaller.

What I also did with a smaller version of this, before the current on, was, to create a new version after big changes happened; like an world v2. I guess I will do this with the current bigger world too, if too much changes are there. You have to kind of finalize all open story chapters and create a new current state. In this new version, the story will just be mentioned as small backstory information. That should slim down the whole definition.

Also there are many character developments happening. I created a lot of different ones, that all have there dreams, fears, worries and other problems. The system often uses these character problems to create new stories and conflicts with the user. So I have to update characters too, when they achieved something and change some personality traits or countered there fears.

So that is kind of it. I would love to here similar experience of the community or ideas and problems that challenged you or what could be improved. I'm still in a constant experimentation-phase. But it's fun.
