Toyota vs. Mazda

Okay SO, I know nothing about cars, like at all. I currently have a Nissan kicks, got it brand new in 2023, and earlier this month had the transmission go out on me. I was three hours away from home and the idea of being stranded because of car issues absolutely scared my parents ( and me tbh) so they are really pushing me to get a new car. My kicks had the transmission replaced and I personally don’t see a need to replace it, but I don’t want them to have to constantly worry about my safety while driving. I’m essentially picking between a Toyota Corolla and a Mazda 3. I work across town and use my car daily. I also love taking roadtrips across my state, I just need somthing reliable that can withstand my weekly commute. Any suggestions?
