Buying Used Skates

Buying Used Skates

To preface, I don’t play ice hockey but I want to get into it. I play roller and ball at the moment. Finding skates that don’t cost a fortune have been difficult to me and a play it again has a pair of 3S skates that felt really good for $60 and I’d be trading stuff in for store credit that may cover the whole cost. My issue is that I never know how well a skate fits until I use them because I only start to feel pain 5-10 minutes into a session.

The issue is they are definitely used and I don’t have experience with really worn skates as I don’t play roller that hard/often. Here’s a listing I found on sls that has similar wear. Cant remember off the top of my head if it’s better or worse than the play it again skates. Would you buy skates in this condition for $60/store credit?

Curve choice

Anyone else have a hard time choosing a curve for a ball? I like toe curves for shooting pucks, but the ball seems to “stick” on the blade because of the deeper pockets and if I don’t have a snappy and straight follow through I almost always pull my shots and passes to the left (righty shooter). Stickhandling is so easy with a toe curve and I don’t really want to give that up. Anyone have the same experience and any way to combat the problem?
