What Therapies Worked For You?

I’ve heard a lot about CBT being the gold standard for socially anxious people, but in my past experience with therapy, it can feel like you’re coaching yourself through your own illness, as the provider merely repeats what you say and suggests fairly obvious solutions(exercise, going out in public, positive self-esteem, etc)

Has CBT helped anyone in this sub, and if so, was it being virtual or in person a contributing factor to your success? And for those for whom it didn’t work, did any alternative therapies do the trick?

What Things Helped Your Executive Functioning?

I am on adderall 20mg XR with a 5mg as-needed IR for afternoon use, and honestly, my concentration and working memory are still very inconsistent. I take the 20mg XR in the morning and am able to lock in on things and get through boring, tedious tasks for hours at a time. But even while on it, at some point in the day I can forget information, lose my train of thought, struggle to think of what next to do, not be able to articulate my thoughts, and have a hard time taking in new information if it isn’t written down. The 5mg as-needed seems to only make me jittery but not more focused.

I do suffer from anxiety as well. I’m not sure what to chalk this up to, but I did wonder if any of you have had success recovering executive function?

The Best Textbooks To Learn The Basics That Aren't Accounting Made Simple

Hi guys. Love this forum, and appreciate all the contributions made to it. I apologize for posing a very common question, but for accounting basics, what textbook(s) have you found the best at relaying concepts without being too dry and that are straightforward? I would prefer not to buy one of the popular manuals like Accounting Made Simple or Accounting For Dummies, but a real book used by students of accounting that is used to bring a complete novice up to a level of proficiency good enough to interpret the usual suspects(balance sheet, income statement, general ledger, fixed income investment accrual and amortization reports).

I've been in the role of bond accountant for a bank for a little over a year, but came from a fixed income sales and trading background that did not really stress balancing books. I know popular nonfiction such as Accounting Made Simple and The Accounting Game are recommended, but I'd much prefer something of a higher esteem. Feel free to correct me if you feel like the popular nonfiction books are the best way to attain the basics.

Any Socially Anxious ADHD Sufferers in this sub?

I suffer from co-occurring Social Anxiety Disorder and ADHD and am being treated for both by the same physician. My doctor prescribed me adderall for my inattentiveness/lack of focus and a common SSRI for SAD. What I’ve found is that this mixture has the effect of see-sawing my brain: I can be hyper focused on a task and see it through to completion after taking the adderall while also being unable to break free of whatever I’m doing and lapsing into intense anxiety when back in a public setting. I space the two medications apart by a few hours, taking the SSRI in the evening and the adderall mid-morning.

In the morning before the adderall, I feel emotionally upbeat but also still not entirely comfortable in the presence of others. Then when I take it, I feel jittery and anxious yet with executive function mostly intact.

Does anyone else in this sub suffer from both conditions and have experienced similar issues? I’ve also found of late that my working memory feels shot at times, even when not in public.

I ask because I only recently(in the last 2-3 weeks) began experiencing symptoms such as struggling for words and forgetting what I intended to do. I work with an NP who is also helping me with social anxiety disorder and depression. I’ve been on 20mg of XR adderall for a year or so, with my attention locking in almost as soon as I take it. But my recall and my “intellect” if you will, feel spotty of late.

Fwiw, my NP had me taper off of Fluoxetine and start a low dose of Paroxetine(which helps the SAD quite well) within the past going on 3-4 weeks.

Anyone here experience similar issues?
