How can I choose the right Master’s programme/university (History) for me?

Hello everyone. I’m an EU student who’d like to start a Master’s degree in History (or something similar) next winter term (Yes, yes, I know that Cultural Studies don’t offer many career prospects – I’m well aware of that, and I have a Plan B, C... just in case it doesn’t work out).

I have a list of all the possible Master’s programmes I could apply for (and, if all goes well, apply for a PhD). However, I’m finding it hard to decide which programme suits me best. I know that the quality at all state universities is very similar. It’s the same in my country, but some universities are better known for a particular subject area or historical period (e.g. some offer exclusive courses in Egyptology or Oriental prehistory), and for that reason it makes more sense to apply to specific universities if you want to do a Master’s programme (or a PhD).

Is it the same in Germany? Are there such differences between universities? Or should I just focus on the degree programmes and the location?

By the way, a bit about me: I find the Early Modern period the most interesting (I studied the colonisation of the Americas extensively for my bachelor’s degree) and I’m also really into the Middle Ages and prehistory. I’m also interested in Digital Humanities, as I have some programming skills (albeit at a beginner’s level) and GIS knowledge.

Many thanks in advance!

Is it too late to send a new Uni-Assist request even though they have already confirmed my degree certificate?

Some weeks ago I applied to a master programme in Germany with time in advance to get my VPD before applying. I sent my bachelor's degree and my English certificate.

But I recently passed the TestDAF and now I can also apply to master's in German. Main issue is, most of the programmes close on May 31st. And Uni-Assist takes a lot of time. But in my case, they already verified all my documents and this time the update would just be the German language certificate. I would also apply for the same university.

Does anyone know if they can do this in less than 2 weeks time considering they already have other information of mine and it's just a language certificate?
