So, about Book 2......
(spoilers for book 2, if you haven't watched Legend of Korra or you're about to watch Book 2)
So, I've posted here about book 1, and said that I'm excited for Book 2.
Yeah, poor choice of words here....
Before I talk about the characters in this season, EP7 & 8 does not have business being this good in a lackluster of a season. In those episodes, we follow Wan, the first Avatar. and his journey from being Aladdin to Master Oogway, getting to know Vaatu and Raava, the evil and good spirits who will plays important part of later episodes in the same season. And It's crazy to think that 2 episodes has way better story and character development than a whole 2 books about.......korra..... And to have a 3 PART FINALE just so that......korra....has a chance against Unalaq and Vaatu, or Unvaatu,
Let's talk about it in character terms:
1- Asami: girl, you are too good for this nonsense. You're overqualified for a side character, you should've been a main one instead of.....korra. You were soo good the writers benched you for couple of episodes. I hate how they using you as a love tringle tool
2- Bolin: brother, I hate how they treating you like a joke in this nonsense. You are too good, too kind for this avatar shenanigans. Like yes, you got Ginger for like one episode and Eska for couple of episodes, but I hope that they make you more mature yet has funny jokes in next seasons.
3- Mako: becaming a cop in Republic City, Mako put a good use for his Firebending, that and many other uses, and then he breaks up with........korra......like I understand he can't reason with her because she is that a quarter of a braincell, and I even understand him telling the president of the Republic City about her plans like if he lied once, his ahh is out of the office, returning to be a broke firebender.
4- Tenzin: I said I loved him in Book 1 post, and this book? he officially became one of my favs. I love how they wrote him as an old man who just wants to be with his kids and lovely LOVELY wife and nothing else. He has a funny quirk where he denies things that is obviously has been done like his father, Aang (oh, how I miss you, my king). I ADORE how he is not an angry father or someone who can't understand, he is just being tasked to teach.....korra...yeah, I would have escaped than teaching her anything like Tenzin, you're an Icon for patience.
5- Tonraq: Brother, you're too good of a father. We are sorry that you have......korra....as a daughter. You have a very great wife, you're way better than your brother, they treated you bad just so that the plot goes on, whatever happens and whatever......korra.....does, you were always THEEE father that anyone wants.
6- The Twins: they are....fine. Like Eska really put a collar on Bolin as if to say "You are my pet now" like DAMN. And love how Eska has a Raven-like personality from Teen Titans in how she talks, behaves, thinks. And then you have Desna, the daddy issues himself. He tries to be a good son to a awful father, but in end, he finally realized that his father really is an awful one. And both of them were like " She thinks that we are really sad about his death, like Rest in Piss, bozo"
7- Unalaq: yeah, I did not knew anything about this Book, even guessing that Zaheer would be the villain of this Book. and boy I wished that was true, because in the VERY first scene, he became so obvious that I was surprised that no one was suspicious about him. Him mentioning an event that no one knew about excepts for him, him calling the spirits to attack on........korra......, Tenzin, and Tonraq just to convince.......korra...... to join him in his "quest" to uniting the two water tribes. This is like trying to uniting China and North Korea just because they are Asians like what?. Oh, and I figured out that he is the villain just by his first scene alone like "Hmmmm, this guy is Tonraq's brother, and he mentioned an event that only he knows about and said the avatar should know something about it which she doesn't giving that it happened in night without anyone knows about it. Oh, and he uses everything to cause hate between........korra.....and her father so that she chooses her uncle over him so that he can uses her, and without a quarter of a braincell, she does favor him over her father, which results in him bringing his soldiers to the southern water tribe as to "uniting the two tribes", but really, he is a power hunger dude who dislikes his brother and caused a civil war just to frame his brother as a traitor, making the people of the north tribe hating on Avatar ( which tbh, deserved) and telling her to be neutral between the two tribes, this is like telling Aang to be neutral between the 3 nations and the Fire Nation"
8- Kya and Buma: I love that we see them interact with Tenzin and them spitting some lore about their backgrounds, and loved the fact that Kya is named after her grandmother and Buma is obviously named after his father's friend, Nice callback. I love how Buma has those stories like Ussopp from One Piece that may or may not be real and one of them helped them against Unalaq and the Northern Tribe.
9 - Tenzin's Kids: yeah, they were behaving like a normal siblings does, ikki, despite being the snitch, has some good moments here and there, Melo having Boki is a wholesome callback to Momo and HE HAS ARMY OF THEM?? yeah, he is him. so Good Job with them.
10- Beifong: MOTHER, AUNT, MY GLORIOUS QUEEN IS HERE, so good to see you again in this book, someone to make this book bearable. We want to see what did she do to the Air Temple that Tenzin residing at.
11- General Iroh II: It's good to see him and hear Zuko again. His fit is great, his hair is clean, his manners is super great. Just, happy to see you again.
12- Varrick: so the writers decided in this book :"So, how about making Sokka 2.0? but he is a successful entrepreneur, has some good lines, has the same reactions of Sokka, already has a good girl on his side, behaving like Sokka but way smarter?" and then, they added Varrick, I won't be surprised if I found out that he is related to Sokka.
13 - Uncle Iroh: THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND, THE MOST ABSURD WISDOM QUOTES MORE THAN OOGWAY HIMSELF. It's so great to see this legend again man.
14 - Zhao: Yup, he is in this season......for about 15 secs. But it's great too see him trying to capture the Avatar while being imprisoned. Good old Zhao, you never change.
And now, ladies and gentlemen, it is time for my frustration and anger to be released now with none other than:
15 - Korra:......korra..... where do I start with you?? like the very first scene of you, airballing without training, using Avatar state, which took Aang being forced to unleash it in Book 2 of ATLA and a couple of episodes to master in Book 3 btw, to win an Airball Racing. that's a bad start.
Oh, but it gets worse.
When she meets Unalaq, she IMMEDIATLEY leaves her father and Tenzin, which he told her to continue training on her Airbending because this is not an Airbending as a results of one training in book 1, this is the writers trying soo hard to make her the Avatar when in reality, she didn't do any real training to master Airbending. It's like Aang mastering Earthbending and use it better that Toph after ONE TRAINING, does that make sense? No? CORRECT.
Oooh, we are not done yet,
Her father, Tonraq, tries to protect her from his brother as he should, but this empty braincell pushes him away and chooses to follow a man who she barely knows on a "spirit training" ignoring her Airbending training because why going there and continue training when I can go and waste my time and causing a civil war between my tribe and the northern water tribe just because I can't pause for 10 secs and THINK. Oh, and her reaction when she found out about Unalaq when he is a fraud, FRYING ME A LOT in photo 2. Oh, and let me tell you how she found out, she went after an innocent judge and, I s@#t you not, threatening him to have his head chopped by Naga, like this is straight a behavior that the past Avatars would throw you away and make you a normal water girl. Like I swear, there was a scene where a girl throws a snowball at her telling her " You are the worst Avatar ever". If you got this reaction from a LITTLE GIRL, yeah, you do not deserve to be called the Avatar. Like seriously, they made 3 PART FINALE, because it's 14 episodes for a reason, just so that she can have a chance against Unvaatu. Like she tried to free Raava without finishing off Unvaatu first, it's like trying to build a house without a pre-construction planning first.
If she listened to her father and Tenzin from the VERY beginning, they wouldn't have to fight the dark spirits, this civil war plot wouldn't have happened easily, she would have be trained to connect to the spirits world under a great circumstances, she wouldn't have lost her connection to Raava and the past Avatars, this season would have been bearable to watch.
The only redeeming quality about her is that she is a good sister figure to Ikki, Melo, and Jinora.
In the end, I've never been angry at a season like this and I watched a lot of medias.
4/10.
I don't know if I should be excited or not to Book 3.....but fingers crossed we have a decent third season at least
