Shrek 4dx review
I just got out of the showing and here are my thoughts.
The seats were very heavily utilized throughout the film very good job with low and high angle shots leaning the seats back to enhance the feelings portrayed. Of course the action scenes had the most use of the equipment. Duloc knight fight, dragon chase, merry men. But also in more storytelling scenes it was used surprisingly well following and mimicking character movement like donkey trotting on shreks chair or Fiona getting tossed on the ground.
My main gripe is with the lackluster use of the water effects, the main scene I thought would utilize it was the opening scene with the first ogre roar. If there was a water effect is was so small it wasnt able to be felt. There was a small splash during the smash mouth scene when he jumps in the pond and again when Fiona disrupts her reflection in the windmill but those were the only times I noticed the effect.
All of the head trauma for hitting and getting hit used the air compressors at the side of the headrest which was distracting and loud.
But the wind effects were really well done both for the transformation scenes, and when dragon picks donkey and shrek up from the swamp. It was also excellently used for ambience during cold scenes or open fields like the traveling montages to great effect.
Overall it was a great and unique experience for shrek and sad it was so limited release but there was no other patrons in our theater and it only showed one showing.
