How the wheat was won

I was wondering how a grain that has to be so highly processed before consumption as wheat was domesticated and its processing discovered. Domestication would make sense if it could be consumed raw and then other uses were found.

Thanks and sorry for the corny title 🙈.

A doubt about the characters in "Speech sounds"

I was recently rereading "Speech sounds" and obviously enjoying it much more than the first time. I just had a small doubt after finishing, although I imagine all the characters as African American, as most (if not all) of Butler's characters in other works are described, but there isn't really any reason to do this. The only hint that could make one of the characters black is the symbol that Rye interprets as "Obsidian", but she admits might as well be Peter.

I've tried visualizing the story with different ethnicities and it just doesn't work for me. It doesn't really affect the story... but somehow it does.

Any thoughts on this?

Oh Alfred...

Probably he should've seen the MRIs to check for soft-tissue injuries. X-rays would show mainly bone injuries or displacements. Sorry to be a nitpicker but I just gave a class on medical imaging physics on Thursday and this stood out.

Just starting Absolute Batman after hearing good things about it for so long. Enjoying it so far.
