Dealing directly with third party's insurer?
I have opened a claim with my insurance for a hit and run which resulted in a dent and scrapes across two panels of my car.
I have a repair booked through my insurance for about a week's time.
My excess is £150.
I have today had a phone call from the other party's insurance saying that their client is "likely at fault" and offering to repair my car, give me a courtesy car, and give me a £300 incentive to allow them to deal with the claim. (I think it's called third party capture or third party assistance.)
I understand that doing this would mean I could change my claim to notification only with my insurers, so come renewal it may mean that some insurers take that into account (but I'm also aware that some don't and would still see it as a non-fault claim, and that I am going to have to declare it one way or another come renewal).
The way I see it is that I could be up £300, not have to pay the excess, get my car repaired/and a hire car, and potentially get some benefit to my premium come renewal.
Or I continue my claim, pay (and hopefully get back my excess), get my car repaired/and a hire car, and potentially take a bigger hit to my premium come renewal.
And I suppose there is a risk that they may try and skimp on the repairs to a certain extent, because clearly the motivation for this is to make it cheaper for them.
Does anyone have any advice? Especially if you have dealt with this before!
