AITAH for telling a stranger to calm down after they caused a scene at a public event for no reason

This was last weekend and I'm still thinking about whether I handled it right.

I was at a local community event, pretty relaxed atmosphere, families and all kinds of people around. At some point I noticed a guy nearby getting increasingly loud and agitated over something that honestly seemed very minor, something to do with seating or space, I couldn't quite make out the full situation. He started raising his voice at one of the event staff, someone who looked like they were just a volunteer doing their job. The volunteer was calm, clearly trying to help, but this guy wasn't having it. People around were visibly uncomfortable, a few kids nearby looked startled.

I stepped over and said as calmly as I could that whatever the issue was it probably didn't need to be handled this way and that the staff member was just trying to help. He turned on me immediately, told me to mind my own business and that I had no idea what was going on.

I said I didn't need to know the full story to see that he was scaring people around him. He stared at me for a second, said something under his breath, and walked off. The volunteer thanked me quietly afterward. But a couple of people nearby said I shouldn't have gotten involved.
