Was discussing this week's episode with some friends, and all of us more or less agreed that the coin flip was a terrible idea, but the outcome was fantastic, ESPECIALLY with Devins stepping up. During our discussion the possibility of the coin flip being staged or faked came up, and I went through and analyzed it frame by frame (and then they all told me to post it here) Subreddit doesn't allow gallaries so everything's mashed up into one image, sorry.

Shot 1: Devins flips the coin. It lands roughly where the blue X is and rolls to the right, curving counterclockwise as it rolls. Importantly, note the L-shaped section of taller grass I've outlined.

Shot 2: Close-up shot of the coin rolling, still curving counterclockwise before falling towards the camera and landing at the location marked with an X. Three important things here. First, we can see the exact same L-shaped patch of grass on the ground from a similar angle. Second, the trajectory of where the coin rolls makes sense from shot to shot. Third, we can actually see the torch and lightning bolt that represent the "tails" side of the coin on the inside of the coin that falls down. I outlined the pattern on this shot and an earlier shot of Jeff holding the coin to make it easier to see.

Shot 3: Jeff picks up the coin, heads side up. This makes sense with what we saw already, and looking at the grass we can verify that it's sitting in the same place it landed in the previous shot.

From this it's pretty easy to conclude that, at the very least, the multiple shots of the coin are all consistent with each other in such a way that it's absolutely certain that all the shots came from the same flip. In order to fake it, you would need to have the entire cast act it out again, which would definitely not go over well.

BONUS FACT: That grass is fake as hell.
