Applying for German student visa without Provisional Degree Certificate (PDC)?

my_qualifications: Final year engineering student with an admit for MSc in Germany (Winter 26).

Hey everyone,

My university won't issue my Provisional Degree Certificate (PDC) until August, but i am willig to take my visa sooner as i am from india, i cant really sure about the timings.

I will have my official Course Completion Certificate, a letter from my Principal stating all requirements are met with zero arrears, all marksheets, and my APS.

People online are giving conflicting info. Some say the visa gets rejected or put on hold without the actual PDC, while others say course completion is standard for freshers.

For those who went to Germany recently as freshers:

  • Did the embassy accept your course completion and principal letter?
  • Did your visa get delayed because of this?
  • Did you explain this delay in your cover letter?

Really stressed about the university timeline. Thanks!

Your inputs are so valuable to me, the thing i am most worried abt is the uni i got in have opened their application for summer 2027, if my journey is uncertain i can apply for next intake but it will make a huge loss, as i must take IELTS and APS again.

Does it work: Applying for German visa at VFS Chennai without Provisional Degree (Fresh graduate / Anna University)

my_qualifications: Final year B.E. student (Electronics and Instrumentation) under an Anna University affiliated college. Got an admit for M.Sc. Electrical Engineering at University of Stuttgart for this Winter intake.

Hey everyone, I need some genuine advice from anyone who went to Germany as a fresher recently.

My college just told me that my official Provisional Degree Certificate (PDC) will only come around August. But my visa appointment at the Chennai consulate will obviously be way before that.

By the time of my appointment, I will have my Course Completion Certificate (stamped and signed by the principal), an official Authorization Letter from the Principal stating I’ve cleared all requirements with zero arrears, all my marksheets up to the final sem, and my APS.

I am seeing so many conflicting opinions online and it’s stressing me out. Some people are saying Chennai VFS straight up rejects your file or puts it on hold if you don't have the actual provisional degree. Others say it’s standard practice for freshers and they accept the course completion letter.

To anyone who went through this exact situation for Winter intake:

  • Did the Chennai consulate accept your course completion + principal letter without issues?
  • Did your visa get delayed or put on hold until August because of this?
  • Did you mention this delay in your cover letter, or just let the documents talk?

Really panicking here because I don't want to mess up my visa over university timeline delays. Please share your actual experience if you've been through this. Thanks a lot!
