Traveling to Canada from the uk. Finding the duty free allowances confusing.
Hi there
I am visiting your lovely country this weekend.
I plan to buy some alcohol from duty free airport in the uk.
I understand that Canada limits to spirits to arround 1L per person.
Question 1: if I’m within the allowed limits - do I declare this?
Question 2: if I buy let’s say 4 litres of gin at uk airport duty free, do I need to declare that as they are not in my hold luggage but hand luggage?
Idea is that hoping to bring the alcohol back to me in the uk.
Question 3: if I fill out the advanced declaration via the app, let’s say I am not taking any and say I’m not taking any, and at duty free I buy some within the limits, would I have to update this at the kiosk/gate at customs?
Normally when I land at any airports, they check your passport and let you go on your way to get your hold luggage. No one has ever stopped me for checking my cabin bags or duty free.
Plus if you did buy at duty free, and put it in hand luggage, how would they know?
I’m just trying to understand the process here
Thanks in advance
