Question for V12 Detect Slim owners: How long do your dirt cups / canisters actually last before the seal dies?
I always thought the clear plastic part would outlast the actual vacuum motor, but the rubber gasket on the bottom of my V12 is starting to look a little sketchy and isn't sealing tight anymore.
Side note: I realized while trying to look up parts that half of us don't even call it a "dust bin" lmao. I was literally searching Amazon for "V12 dirt cup" and "clear canister" for like twenty minutes before I figured out what Dyson actually calls it.
Because the V12 is the "Slim" model and the bin is tiny, I feel like I'm emptying it constantly, which probably wears out the mechanism faster. But it got me wondering... what is the normal lifespan of these things? Do you guys just run them until the red sliding latch physically snaps off, or do you swap them out when the rubber seals start looking worn out? Curious to know how long yours have lasted before you had to buy a new one.
Also, a quick heads up for anyone who is looking to buy a backup online: make sure you double-check the sizes. I was browsing around and saw so many angry reviews from people accidentally buying V15 dirt cups for their V12. The V12 canister is physically way shorter.
If your battery sticker says SV20 or SV30, you need the dedicated V12 size (this covers the standard Detect Slim, the Absolute, and the Costco "Extra" version). Don't buy a V15 one for a V12.
Let me know when you guys usually bite the bullet and replace yours! 👇
