Tips on eye strain for BVD

Got my new glasses last week with prisms in them and was officially diagnosed with BVD. I never had eye issues growing up. I first got glasses at 27 for nearsightedness and mainly wore them during work because I stare at two screens all day. I’m 34 now, and the last 6 months my eyes have gotten awful.

I was having constant double vision, burning/stinging eyes, and severe dryness. Eye drops actually made it worse, and warm compresses barely helped. That’s when my eye doctor diagnosed the BVD. For work, I’m looking at two screens all day. I keep everything on night mode/dark mode, but I’m also a photographer on the side, so dimming screens doesn’t always work when I’m editing photos.

I was also diagnosed with ADHD and autism in 2024, so realistically I spend way more time on screens than I probably should. The prism glasses definitely help, but I went from wearing glasses maybe 3–4 hours a day to basically wearing them 24/7 now.

The adjustment period has been rough. By the end of my work shift, my eyes sting so badly that even looking at the TV or my phone makes my eyes involuntarily water.

I’m considering going back to the eye doctor, but they did warn me it could take up to 2 weeks for my eyes to adjust since I wasn’t previously an all-day glasses wearer.

For anyone with BVD or prism glasses, what tips or home remedies helped you during the adjustment phase? Not looking for medical advice, just personal experiences.

Hey all! I got diagnosed with BVD last week and got my lenses today with prisms added to it. I’ve been experiencing double vision and severe eye strain for months to where I had to close one eye to see clearly. While everything looks more clear and not getting hit with two images at once, my phone and computer screen look kind of slanted, like curved in a bit and I have a tiny bit of blurred vision while on my work computer. Overall it’s just weird but better than not having them on at all.

How long does it take to get adjusted to these kind of glasses? The optician said up to a week.

I also brought in my own frames and the back lenses part is sticking out a bit lol
