Comparison between EF 70-300 and EFS 55-250 from Canon (for my first upgrade) ?

Hello,

I am preparing to photograph the total eclipse in august and I want to upgrade my equipment with a new camera lens (as well as a solar filter).

Currently I have a Canon EOS 100D with a lens EF-S 18-135mm (which is not enough to have a good picture).

I did some research and I come up with 2 choices but idk which one to choose between the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM and the EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS. My budget is between 300 and 400 euros, as it will be my very first upgrade.

Both seems good but I can’t find which one would be have a better value for what I photograph. I did saw that the 70-300 is a compromise? and not this great. But since it will my first upgrade and I don’t have a lot of budget (when compared to high quality lens), I don’t know what to choose.

For context I practise photography occasionally focusing on celestial activities and clouds landscape, and sometimes animals.

So I’m asking you if you have experienced any of them or both which one is the best to have considering my needs.

Thanks you in advance for your advice !

(I saw some posts about each choices but I didn’t find a comparative between those two.)
