I just got back from DEF CON, and one of my favorite parts was honestly just talking to, and being around people who are into weird technical stuff and showing each other what they're working on.

So I'm thinking about starting something called Omahackers.

I'll be at Inner Rail I will try for every Thursday around 6-7 PM. If people want to show up, bring a laptop, bring a project, bring some weird piece of hardware, or just come hang out and talk.

"Hackers" would be pretty broad here: cybersecurity, RF/SDR, ham radio, electronics, ESP32/Arduino, Linux, programming, networking, AI, data analysis, lockpicking, CTFs, home labs, maker stuff, whatever.

No formal affiliations, no formal presentations, no dues, no requirement to know what you're doing. Just a standing place for Omaha nerds to hang out and work on cool stuff.

If there's enough interest, I'll make a subreddit/Discord/Facebook group so people can coordinate and share projects.

Would anyone actually come to this?

I'll have the badge with the flashies on the table with my laptop on a table somewhere inside.

Their website says so, but I’ve also found opposing reports during events and for non guests.

Hey y’all, I’m planning on driving out and back to Vegas from the Eastern Nebraska area, dates are fairly flexible, possibly thinking of a night or two of camping in Utah or CO along the way. Currently going solo but am super open to split some costs with 1-3 people and have an epic time. Could pickup anywhere along the way and/or meet in Omaha and head out from here. Can’t wait for August!
