Has anyone been able to hack the ability to make the benefit of the meds last longer? I take it first thing in the morning and it takes about an hour to an hour and a half to kick in, then it only lasts 4-5 hours. I really need another 4 hours out of it. What’s worked best for you?
My ADD & OCD daughter just finished third grade and it was the hardest year yet. Honestly social issues caused majority of the problem. She was very heavily bullied. They would make her join them in a game and talk up something that sounded so fun, and then turn around and make fun of her for doing it. Called her ugly, dumb, a baby…you name it. She said she was crying every day at school. We were heavily involved in trying to get this resolved all year at school with not much luck. We do believe she may be on the spectrum, but she masks incredibly well. She is struggling in school grade wise due to the ADD and we’ve spent all year trying to get meds right with also no luck. Now it’s summer and she is bored 24/7. She can NOT play on her own. Never has been able to since the day she was born. Yet, playing with others triggers all of her worst behaviors. We are surrounded by kids ages 3-9, most of which are younger than her. She constantly wants to play with people, but every time we come back from playing with someone, the entire night is a full on throwing things screaming meltdown. Anyone have any tips? I’m happy to have her play with friends, but this is exhausting to deal with the aftermath every day and then if I don’t allow her to in order for her to have personal downtime, she’s exploding because she can’t be alone and wants to play with someone (she has a younger sibling that’s 3 years younger but they do not get along well so that option she just writes off every single time). She’s been in therapy for 2 years and we will be going to once a week this summer as well as starting occupational therapy. We are still trying to work out meds.
For context, I do have hEDS and POTS.
I have had this happen (https://imgur.com/gallery/csf-QjsnoxE#5psBlox) four times now in the last year and a half. It’s been weeks following a sinus infection usually, so whenever I’d go to the doctor, they just tell me my sinus infection hasn’t been treated and send me on my way with a new antibiotic. So I went to an allergist and an ENT to look more into this, and neither have any reason to believe structurally why this is happening so I’ve just assumed my body is just having a hard time getting rid of sinus infections. I never have congestion with this leaking out of my nose, and I describe it as olive oil with the color and feel of it. I just had surgery 4 days ago and had a headache for 2 days. It felt worse when standing so I laid down a lot. Then all of the sudden, my headache went away. It wasn’t until 24 hours later this came out of my nose. My sinus infection was 3 weeks ago. My doctor is now thinking this may be a CSF leak and the surgery and medication caused added pressure. I have had a CT scan and it shows nothing, but that was weeks after my nose doing this so my doctor thinks it’s probably healing on its own each time. Regardless, the next time this happens I will go to the ER, but does this sound/look like CSF leaks? I just assumed I’d be sicker since this keeps happening…
I’m trying to understand if other parents have gone through something similar, because I feel like we’re missing part of the picture.
My daughter (3rd grade) has ADHD along with anxiety and OCD. We have tried a few medications and haven’t had success yet. Now that she is off meds (3 days off everything) we are seeing intense emotional dysregulation. She has big outbursts, says very hurtful things, and has made statements about wanting to hurt herself when overwhelmed. This is not abnormal as we have been seeking help for some time now. We did test for PANDAS and none of the markers showed up positively.
This feels like more than straightforward ADHD, and I am wondering if others have experienced something similar. Tonight, she played outside for 45 minutes with neighbors. I told her it was time to come in for dinner and all of the sudden dinner is disgusting and stupid and she hates me and she wishes she could fall down the stairs.
If this sounds like your child, what ended up being the bigger picture, and what actually helped?

My daughter (3rd grade) has ADHD along with anxiety and OCD. We have tried a few medications and the pattern has been confusing:
- Guanfacine helped her focus a lot, but caused irritability and sleep issues
- Ritalin made her extremely talkative and physically restless, almost sped up
- Vyvanse actually helped her attention the most, but she completely lost her appetite and had noticeable mood swings. She would get very energized and then suddenly flip into anger
