Being an Uber Eats driver is a mental battle we rarely talk about

As a female driver 🏃‍♀️, I’m going to be real—there are days I sit in my car and just break down 😭

People really don't see the reality behind the app.

Dealing with the brutal 100°F+ 🌞☀️ Phoenix summer heat is draining enough, but then you combine that with the constant stream of $2-$3 lowball offers, the heat exhaustion, and the toxic "anti-tipper" culture mocking us online. 💸💵

By the time I get home, I’m mentally and physically fried.

But the worst part? The false accusations. Working so hard, handling the food with care, only to get a "missing order" report because a customer wanted a free meal? It’s heartbreaking. 💔💔

Getting a warning from Uber when you know you did everything right—it makes you question why you're even out here. It’s not just about the money; it’s about being treated with basic human respect.

I have so much respect for the drivers who keep a tough exterior out there, but I know a lot of us are struggling behind the scenes. We’re all fighting invisible battles.

Please stay hydrated, take breaks when you need to, and remember to be kind to yourself and each other.

We are more than just a delivery icon on a map. 💙

Anyone else gotten caught by a speed camera mid-delivery?

Got flashed by a speed camera while delivering—58 in a 45 coming down a downhill section. Road was wide open (3–4 lanes) and I just wasn't dialed in. Saw the flash and knew I was cooked. 💀

6,300 deliveries in and this is my first camera violation. I’m usually super aware of speed cameras, but I guess my luck ran out that day.

For AZ/Phoenix drivers: Is defensive driving school the best way to keep points off my record and save my insurance?

RIP today’s earnings. Drive safe out there, y'all!

"I’ll tip you $50" to deliver to a Re-Entry Facility... guess how that went 💀

Accepted a Shop & Deliver offer at Dollar General for $25 (31 items/39 units). Thought it was going to be a quick snack run just snacks. Boy, was I wrong.

Right, shopping took a while, but the drop-off location turned out to be the Maricopa Re-Entry Center—literally a secure facility with razor wire fences. Naturally, the customer required a PIN, wasn't responding, and calls went straight to voicemail.

I waited out the timer, contacted Support, and was literally ready to take the items back to the store (support promise me $8 fee return, when the customer finally texted:

"I'm so sorry, just leave it there. Here's the PIN. I'll tip you $50!"

Fast forward... $14 tip from the original upfront offer. The extra $50 was a complete lie to make sure I didn't return the order to the store.

1.5+ hours wasted outside a re-entry facility for a whopping $25.58. Lesson learned the hard way today 🤦‍♀️

Where do Phoenix foodies usually hang out or share local food recommendations online?

Hey everyone! Just moved/settled near E Bell Rd in North Phoenix and I'm really into cooking Japanese comfort food (rice bowls). I'm looking for local groups, forums, or threads where people share food recommendations or support local home cooks. Any suggestions for active local groups?

Never playing hero for a road closure again. Instant cancel from now on 🙅‍♀️

Accepted a seafood order for $16.15 for 7 miles, an instant accept in my book. Right near drop-off, hit a massive road closure.

My biggest mistake was messaging support while stuck there just asking them not to mark me late, instead of asking for an instant cancel. I tried to be a "good driver" and took a detour. It ended up being 13 miles and 54 minutes. Uber’s base pay for all that extra time and gas? A pathetic $2.06.😃👌

When I asked for a fare adjustment, support literally said: "You already received more than expected" because of the customer's tip💰💰 They used the tip to cover up underpaying the base fare

Now I’m stuck going back and forth, practically begging support just to get paid fairly for the extra miles driven 😭🫤

I’m kicking myself because if I had just stopped at the road closure, called support, and canceled, kept my sanity, and saved gas. Lesson learned: if the road is closed, cancel immediately. Not worth playing hero for Uber🙅

TacoBell $25 4.4miles, would you take that?

Accepted a $25 Taco Bell order for 4.4 miles. Because the payout was high, I checked with support first. The agent explicitly told me the order was live, not stolen and to proceed. But still drove there with worry 😃👍

Drove 2.6 miles, and the exact moment I arrived, the app auto-canceled it and labeled it as "You canceled" in my history ($0.00 pay). That time was 11 AM, and the canceled order history showed 9:22 AM and 9:24 AM (two canceled orders, even though my order was only for one customer, because of a glitch)

Contacted support again for my compensation since I wasted gas following their instructions, and the agent straight up told me it's not eligible and said: "At this time, I am the highest support available on the floor." 🤣

Has anyone else been trapped and gaslighted like this by support lately? Fighting this later tonight 😃👍

Would you take that?

Last night about 8 pm. it was raining, and the rain was getting bad, with a lot of debris and a little wind. Probably this is for a big guy driver who can lift heavy weight. But 63 items are a lot

u/Jesryo — 1 month ago

$16.25 5 miles 3 items only at ACE. Thought it was worth it, but it's not

One of the items turned out to be 5 units of wood.

I’m a girl, 5'0" and 110 lbs, so carrying them was a bit of a struggle 😂. The drop-off location was just a regular house, which was no problem at all.

But during the process, one of the planks scraped my foot, and it bled a little. It’s just a minor scratch, nothing serious, but I still ended up buying some Bacitracin ointment at Dollar Tree afterward just to be safe.

I don't know if other drivers would consider this order worth it, but I definitely regret taking it.

AZ Drivers: Here is my blacklist of luxury apartments that are absolute nightmares to deliver to. What are yours?

Here is my personal blacklist of "hotel-style" maze apartments in Arizona. Whenever I accidentally accept an offer to these places (I always check Gmaps before continue with the orders), I do not hesitate to unassign immediately. Most of these are luxury complexes where customers tip poorly but expect you to navigate a labyrinth just to reach their door.

Feel free to add yours in the comments!

  1. Ninety Degrees Apartments, Scottsdale
  2. Preston at Biltmore, Arcadia/Phoenix area
  3. Cirq 44, Phoenix
  4. Lumina, Phoenix
  5. The Cameron, Tempe
  6. Trend 51, Phoenix
  7. Azure, Desert Ridge

I don’t mind walking to a customer's door if the layout makes sense. However, these specific buildings are built like massive mazes where it’s incredibly easy to get lost trying to find your way back to the car.

To make matters worse, sometimes zero cellular connection in their elevators or parking garages, which means you can't even complete the order on the app or use your map.

On top of that, you often have to enter gate codes or elevator PINs multiple times, or you find out you need a key fob just to access their floor. If residents know their building has high-security locked elevators and zero cellular signal, they should have the decency to meet us downstairs.

Getting stuck in a dead-zone labyrinth for 20 minutes for a low tip just isn't worth it

I fcknn HATE call boxes. Customers, please just give us a code

I just had the most frustrating drop-off at an apartment complex.

So there I was there (in front callbox) like an idiot, manually scrolling all the way through M, N, O, P, Q, R, until I finally hit 'S' for his name. I call him to get buzzed in, "I'm your delivery driver, please open the gate". he answers, and all I get is: "Sorry, I can't hear you." And then nothing. He didn’t even bother to buzz me in or fix it.

Thankfully, a savior car drove up and opened the gate, so I managed to sneak in. Fyaaa.

Seriously, if your call box requires us to scroll through a massive directory, just give us a direct gate code or a 3-digit directory code!

Because honestly, if people care that much about privacy and safety, they shouldn’t even be ordering delivery.

Fellow pro drivers, how do you usually handle this kind of situation when the customer doesn't buzz you in and no cars are coming? or do you leave it at the gate?

Why do people think the drive-thru is a dating app? 😭

I’ve been doing delivery for over a year now, and tonight was officially the weirdest and most nerve wracking shift I've ever had.

I was waiting for my DD orders in the drive-thru line at Burger King (near the Glendale/Phoenix border) when the car in front of me suddenly started turned on a flashlight (not reversing).

Next thing I know, the driver gets out of his car and walks straight over to my window. Doing late-night deliveries as a solo female driver, my heart was pounding SO fast. I was genuinely terrified at first.

For anyone wondering how I knew his intentions since I don't speak Spanish, his body language made it 100% obvious that he was just trying to flirt/shoot his shot:

He approached with a relaxed smile (not angry, no emergency signs like pointing at my tires or smoke).

He explicitly asked if I spoke Spanish (I managed a shaky "No sé" to let him know I didn't understand).

Then came the universal sign: he literally mimicked a typing motion on his hand while saying "WhatsApp?" with a grin.

Once he realized I wasn't interested and we couldn't really communicate, he just said "ok," smiled, and walked back to his car without being aggressive or pushy.

Looking back at my dashcam, it’s crazy. I definitely felt vulnerable as a gig worker out there by myself.

Has anyone else ever had someone literally stop a drive-thru line just to try and get your number? 😭

I'm giving up my 50 trips quest. This algorithm is designed to make us lose

I'm officially done. Currently at 21/50 trips with 60 rejects already, and I’m letting this $142 Main Quest go for my own sanity and financial survival.

The algorithm is just bombing my screen with absolute garbage. I'm constantly getting slammed with offers like $4.39 for 3.5 miles or $7 for 17 miles. The mileage is always higher than the payout.

With only 40 rejects left and 29 trips to go, the "under 100 rejects" rule is a complete trap. Uber IT designed this specifically to force us into taking trash, money-losing orders just to maintain the quest quota.

I’m not ruining my car or wasting my gas for this. I’m just going to cherry-pick normally or go home. Anyone else finish a quest this weekend?

Do you guys actually pay for the "Rideshare/Delivery" endorsement?

I'm doing this gig fulltime (mostly Uber Eats) and my personal insurance quote shows only 7k miles/year for 'pleasure'. In reality, I do about 10k miles every 4 months.

I'm worried that the odometer reading on my 2025 Hyundai will be a dead giveaway if I ever need to file a claim. Should I be honest about my 25k+ annual miles?

If I update my policy to 'Business/Delivery' use with high mileage, am I looking at a massive price jump?

For those of you in AZ (or similar states), did you add the endorsement? How much did it hike your premium? Is it worth the peace of mind or am I overthinking it?

Has anyone been caught by their insurance for underreporting mileage while doing delivery? Looking for some advice before I sign the ACH form. Thanks
