Used GC 4xe... yes or no?

Hi! I just test drove a 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe and wanted to get some honest owner feedback before pulling the trigger.

It's got the Luxury Tech Group II package, 60k miles, CPO with about 4yr/40k miles of warranty left. After negotiating, the dealer is asking $25k out the door.

Carfax shows one owner, no accidents, clean title, and service records every 5,000-8,000 miles pretty consistently.

Drove it today and honestly loved it. It has the exact color that I want and the only cosmetic flaw was some wear on the driver's seat leather. Ride quality was excellent, and out of every car I've test driven in this price range, it genuinely felt the most luxurious.

My only hesitation is this is my first time considering a Stellantis vehicle, and from what I've been reading, the 4xe seems to have a reputation for reliability issues/frequent trips to the shop. I want to go in with realistic expectations.

So current or former 4xe owners, what's your real experience been like? Good, bad, ugly, all of it welcome. Trying to decide if $25k OTD for this specific car is a smart buy or if I'm about to sign up for a headache.

Thanks!

Can I register a car to another state but don't drive there for over 30 days?

I'm planning to buy a car this month and trying to figure out the best approach for registration given my situation.

My permanent address is in New York, my driver's license is NY-issued, but I'm currently attending college in Indiana. I'll be returning to Indiana in about two months after my purchase.

My initial thought was to register in NY first, then transfer the registration to IN once I'm back, but NY insurance is roughly three times more expensive, so I'd love to avoid that if possible.

A few questions I'm trying to work through :

  1. Can I register the car in Indiana even though my license and permanent address are in NY?

  2. If so, is it legal to drive on Indiana plates in New York for ~2 months while I'm here?

  3. NY temporary plates are only valid for 30 days. Would the dealership be able to issue or renew a second one to bridge the gap?

I'm visiting the dealership today to ask about the temp plate situation, but I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's navigated something similar. Any advice helps!

I currently live in Indiana but I'm going to be spending about a month in New Jersey. I'm in a situation where I need to buy a car, but I can't do it here in Indiana right now - so my plan is to purchase one while I'm in NJ.

Here's my situation:

- Buy a car in NJ

- Drive it in NJ for roughly a month

- Then drive it back to Indiana and register it here

My question is: can I buy the car in NJ, get a temporary/transit registration, drive it there for the month, and then just register it in Indiana once I'm back?

Or do I need to register it in NJ first and then deal with transferring the title/registration to Indiana later? I'm trying to avoid double registration fees or any legal headaches.

What I'm wondering is does NJ issue temp tags that would last long enough (~30 days)?

Is there anything the dealership can do to help make this easier?

For context, I'd be buying from a dealership (not a private seller), if that changes anything.

Any advice from people who've dealt with something similar would be hugely appreciated. Thanks!
