Career shift from IT to Nursing via Ausbildung at 27. Will my background hurt my chances?

Hallo,

Im 27M from the Philippines with over 6+ years of experience working in IT (Multimedia side). While Ive been fortunate to build a stable career, Ive recently realized that I dont feel fulfilled by the work Im doing.

To be honest, IT wasnt my first choice of career. I pursued it because it was a practical decision at the time, and although Ive gained valuable experience and skills, Ive never really enjoyed working in the field. Over the past few months, Ive been seriously thinking about making a career change.

Ive always wanted to become a nurse, but I was discouraged from pursuing it because we already have several nurses in our family. At the time, I was encouraged to choose a different career path instead (I was interested in the multimedia side of it). Even so, my interest in healthcare never really went away. Its something thats stayed with me over the years, and now that Im reflecting on what I want for my future, I find myself wanting to pursue that long standing interest.

After doing some research, Ive become interested in pursuing nursing through the Ausbildung program. Compared to going back to school for a 4 year BSN degree in the Philippines, the fully funded vocational training seems like a much more financially realistic path for me.

My main concern is whether my background will affect my chances of getting accepted.

Since my work experience is entirely in IT:

  • Would employers see me as overqualified because of my years of professional experience?
  • Or would they see me as an unsuitable candidate because I have no healthcare-related background?
  • Has anyone here successfully transitioned from tech (or another unrelated field) into healthcare through Ausbildung?
  • If so, what made your application stand out despite the career change?

Im aware that changing careers at this stage wont be easy, and Im prepared to start from the beginning if it means working in a field that feels more meaningful to me. Im currently researching the language requirements, application process, and what I can do to improve my chances.

Id really appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through a similar career shift or has experience with the Ausbildung process. Any advice, insights, or reality checks are welcome.

Thanks in advance!
