Where to stay in PH?

Hi everyone,

I want to stay in PH for 2-4 weeks. Probably in Manila, but I'm also open to other suggestions.

I value comfortable accomodation in an area that offers good food and cafés. I don't care much about nightlife.

Which area of Manila (or of any other place you liked) would you suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Potential Ausbildung Opportunity

My dad who is currently working sa Croatia is merong kakilalang workmate na nagapply sa isang company sa germany. According to him working permit nalang daw yung hinihintay ng katrabaho nya.

Turns out, the company is expanding and majority ng workers nila is mga industrial electrician at technicians. And saktong sakto yung mga skills na meron ako para pasukin yung ganung line of work. I have tesda certifications.

As of now nag-aaral nako ng German language.

Civil engineers in Canada. Any advice?

Hi everyone! I’m a 30F civil engineer in the Philippines with nearly 2 years of experience in government irrigation projects. I'm wondering what the best pathway is to migrate to Canada. For those who have already moved there, what advice can you share? Thanks!

Stuck between 2 choices that would change my life forever

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate some advice from people familiar with the Australian engineering/energy industry, especially those who have experience with migration and working in Australia.

I (Electrical Engineer ) currently have two opportunities, and I’m trying to decide which one would be the better move for my long-term career and eventual migration to Australia or similar countries.

Option 1: 482 Visa Sponsorship offer

  • FIFO Engineer 40$/hr Base rate, more if deployed, Perth WA
  • Australian company
  • The company is sponsoring me for a 482 visa and will sponsor transition to 186 after 4 years.
  • Role is focused on heavy electrical site works
  • Opportunity to work with the Australian team and gain experience on Australian projects
  • pathway to build my career in Australia

Option 2: US Company, APAC Region , PH Based - AU Headquarters

  • Based in the Philippines, will travel within this region for work.
  • The offer is also good, and I can stop renting here in Metro Manila and go back to my province and rent there instead. (I can't live and work in my parents' home because of many circumstances iykyk)
  • More closely aligned with my current technical experience and career path as an engineer
  • Potentially stronger technical specialization, but no Australian relocation/sponsorship.
  • Combination of Field Work and Technical Studies + vendor-specific expertise.

I'm leaning towards option 1 because I really want to leave PH ASAP. But the experience I'd get for Option 2 is really good. If I choose this, I will have to process my own visa via 189/190 to migrate.

Would really appreciate perspectives from anyone who has gone through a similar PH → Australia engineering pathway, particularly in electrical/power systems.

19M. I miss the Philippines so bad. Need advice.

I moved to Canada when I was 7 years old and have been here for over 10 years now. Within that 10 years, my family and I never returned to the Philippines again and so growing up, I always felt a little distant from my family there. Fast forward to last year, my dad passed away and since I was at the age where I could travel by myself, I decided to go to the Philippines.

For 3 months, I spent my time reconnecting with my cousins from my dad’s side, all of which are my age. I just had the best time of my life. Then, fast forward to summer of 2026, I decided to ONCE AGAIN fly to the Philippines to be with my cousins. I was there for 2 months this time.

I really want to experience Christmas and New Years in the Philippines, but my mom has been getting frustrated with me going to the Philippines. She has never been fond of going back home because of the expenses, which is also why we didn’t go to the Philippines much growing up.

I’m about to write my entrance examination for medical school, which is a 4 month commitment, and if I get in, it’s straight grind for several years. My rationale for wanting to constantly go back is because I feel like now is the time to travel and spend time with them. In just a couple years, I’m going to be too busy to visit my dad’s family whom I’ve grown so close to.

Am I selfish for wanting to go back and forth to the Philippines? It’s just my mom and my two siblings now that my dad passed.

Student Visa / Master’s by Research

Maging PR man kami o hindi, as long as kikita kami and ma eexperience mag trabaho sa ibang bansa, ok na kami.

Comfortable naman yung buhay namin sa Pinas pero minsan maiisip mo na lang na you only live once.. so we’re taking our shot.

Pa share naman ng insights niyo po! Kung itutuloy pa ba namin ‘to o pag isipan namin mabuti?

Makakaipon ba kami o mauubos lang kami?

Canadian Student Visa Application

Good day! I’m currently enrolling in a PGWP course in Canada. Would just like to ask the likelihood of my student visa being approved. The plan is to have the first year of my tuition fully paid before applying for my student visa and having extra funds set aside for my living expenses.

Would this be enough? Just quite nervous since my goal is the winter intake and I still haven’t processed my student visa application. 🥲

Housing in this economy

Years ago, I posted here sa phmigrate to weigh in sa thoughts ko about housing. We are currently renting and I didn't know then if I'll ever consider buying a house. My partner wanted to, but we were just not ready.

Then recently, we checked and kaya na siguro namin. Nagbago lahat ng pananaw ko sa buhay and with the situation sa Pinas, tingin ko best na talaga na bumili ng house and magsettle na for good sa ibang bansa. Pashare naman ng thoughts nyo. 😊

How much it normally costs for a PR in Australia?

Hi, I’m a Civil Engineer with 6 yrs experience here in Ph. I recently just had a consultation with an agency regarding skilled migration to Australia through Visa 190/189/491. I would need to prepare around 700k for the entire process (including for my de facto partner) so parang tig 300k kami. And looking at it parang kaya naman. Ang kaso lang wala pang actual work yun maghahanap pa once magrant ang visa, and the additional costs for plane tickets and living expenses if pupunta na australia na wala pang work.

For those who went through a similar path, How’s the job market for CE there?

Any advise would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

Interim Visa (NZ)

Hi everyone,

May question lang ako about Interim Visas.

I currently have a general VVisa that expires in February 2027. However, I’ve been in NZ since June 1, and my visa conditions only allow me to stay for up to 3 months at a time, or 9 months within a 12-month period.

We’ve lodged a Partner of a New Zealander VVisa application, and I’m wondering if an Interim Visa can still be granted even though my actual visa doesn’t expire until next year.

I’m a bit confused because I can’t find clear information on whether an Interim Visa can be granted when it’s the permitted length of stay, rather than the actual visa expiry date.

Has anyone been in a similar situation or knows how this works? Thanks!

Savings in Australia

For those who migrated to Australia, how do you grow your money aside from superannuation? Right now in PH, I have funds in digital banks with interest and some stocks. I'm just wondering if it is still beneficial i-continue 'to since it's still going to be in PHP? Do you guys do something equivalent like this in AUS or is the superannuation enough? Just thinking ahead on how I can save and budget my expenses once I get there. Thank you so much in advance

The US was my goal, as a Physical Therapist na galing Pinas. But I spent years taking a “faster” route somewhere else

I wanted to become a physical therapist in the United States.

Instead of pursuing it directly, I chose Australia because it appeared faster, safer, and more immediately achievable.

The route gave me a career out of the Philippines, but it did not remove the US requirements. I still had to complete credential evaluation, the NPTE, state licensing, and immigration processing.

The greatest cost was not the fees. It was postponing a goal until changing countries became more complicated because of age, responsibilities, relationships, debt, and comfort.

I am not telling everyone to choose the US. It can involve long waits, difficult exams, uncertain immigration, expensive healthcare, and demanding workplaces.

I am telling people to stop calling another country a stepping stone without checking whether it actually advances anything.

Choose Canada because you want Canada.

Choose Australia because you want Australia.

Choose the US because you accept both its opportunity and its risks.

But do not build an entire life around avoiding the process attached to the place you truly wanted. You may eventually complete that process anyway—only older, more tired, and after paying for two journeys.

Employer-sponsored student visa

Hello, may nakapag employer sponsored student visa na ba dito?

Just asking kasi yung client ko is may connections sa visa agency sa PH (bff sila nung owner). Ang sinasuggest na easiest route ng bff niya is student visa for higher possibility na magka-PR ako. They are willing to sponsor my tuition fee and willing to assist me on my 1 month accomodation pag dating ko ron. Mukhang suntok sa buwan kasi yung employer sponsored visa dahil may skills nomination process pa?

Ang tanong ko lang is may mga sumuccess na ba dito na ganun ang ginawa instead of employer sponsored visa?
