Hi, anyone working in a FAANG company?

Would love to hear your experience. What country are you in and what position/level are you at?

I recently got an offer in Canada, marketing position, but I’m currently in a pretty stable, good, and chill role.

The company is known for having a more intense / demanding culture, and ever since I moved here, sobrang chill ng work environment compared to what I was used to in the Philippines. Medyo weird nga sabihin pero parang hinahanap na yata ng katawan ko yung konting chaos 😅 (I know be careful what you wish for😭)

Curious how the experience has been for others, especially if you moved from a stable role into FAANG.

Curious lang for those who migrated in AU, how much is your current super balance?

As migrants, we have a lot to catch up to in terms of super compared to people our age who have been working here since they were teenagers. There are a lot of published numbers online about the average super balance per age group but I’m more curious about migrants who have only been here for few years. What’s your age, how long have you been in AU and how much is your super?

To start I’m 39F, 8 years in AU and super is around $130k.

US Job Opportunities

Hi! We've applied for US immigration visa, via petition. Because of this, I've been considering the chances to apply for work in the US. However, I'm currently working as an analyst here in PH, for over a year.

Can i ask what are the possibilities to land a job there given my background?

Is there anyone here na may partner na foreign national na depressed?

Yung partner ko may depression. We're a gay couple.

Di ko lang kasi gets, I mean gets ko na depression is an inability of the brain to process/produce happy chemicals. But still, I can't help but wonder, is it because of his upbringing?

Kasi ako, laki ako sa hirap. So mababaw lang kaligayahan ko. Like chocolate lang napapasaya na ako. Simpleng masarap na ulam, (like most of us Filipinos) napapasaya na tayo, kasi food is life tayong mga Pinoy (as far as I know).

I mean kung ako kasi ang nasa buhay nya, I'll be so content and happy kasi he has my dream life. High paying remote job, nice house, na merong gaming room with huge TV. Wala syang real problems. Nabankrupt ako nung last time na nastroke si papa.

I'm wondering lang, is it because he has all of these all his life, na ang taas tuloy ng bar ng things that make him happy? And nothing makes him happy anymore?

If you're in a similar situation as mine, how do you deal with it?

Nanay needs cataract surgery thursday and my usual way of sending money to the philippines isn't fast enough

Clinic wants half the payment by thursday to schedule the surgery. Got the call sunday.

Commonwealth bank international wire is what I've used for three years. $25 AUD fee, 3 to 5 business days. Teller told me monday the money won't land until friday even rushed. Friday is too late.

Googling on break between patients and every app name looks sketchy to me. Wise, remitly, a few others I've never heard of. The thought of signing up for something new during an actual crisis, having a first transfer hold trip a verification check, and blowing thursday's deadline... I'm genuinely losing it.

Has anyone here actually done a same day send to gcash or a PH bank in an emergency? Specifically asking about first transfers, whether the new user friction is real or manageable.

Notes about me po:

- there are no folds on other pages, cover is not folded, info page is not folded, no smudged inks, etc. just this one page was folded

- OFW po sa Germany, may residence visa na under Blue Card visa

- I have other stamps and visas sa passport to prove na frequent traveller ako

- they probably won't care but nagbakasyon lang po kami ng gf ko, she's German and, if I get denied, will fly back alone 😅

I looked at the infographics from DFA and I think ok naman. But, I panicked a bit nung binuksan ko ung passport. Some peace of mind lang po sana.

Maraming salamat po!

Graduate Studies in Belgium

Any Filipinos here who took a Master’s in Civil Engineering in Belgium? How difficult is it compared to the Philippines?

I’m currently considering taking a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering in Belgium, and I wanted to hear insights from people who may have gone through a similar experience, especially fellow Filipinos. For context, I graduated Civil Engineering in the Philippines and I’ve been thinking about pursuing further studies abroad (also because a masters degree is required for my career path in Belgium). My mother’s fiance is a Belgian citizen, so moving and settling in Belgium may be more manageable for me.

Also, how are the career opportunities there for civil engineers, especially internationals? I haven’t seen many posts from Filipinos in a similar situation, so I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences, advice, or even warnings before I seriously pursue this path. Thank you!

Forced to migrate to the U.S. and now being pressured into Nursing

I recently graduated from senior high school in the Philippines and originally planned to take a hospitality-related course. However, we suddenly migrated to the U.S., and now my family is pushing me into Nursing because they see it as one of the most practical and stable careers here. They keep telling me the field I actually want is impractical and won’t give me a good future compared to Nursing.

They also keep saying I don’t understand their perspective and that I’ll regret my choices later once I start working. They often bring up relatives who pursued creative or non-medical fields and supposedly ended up regretting it because they didn’t earn enough.

The problem is that I never really wanted to move here in the first place. My original plan was to work, save money, and eventually continue my studies and life back in the Philippines. I don’t really see myself settling in the U.S. permanently, but my family wants all of us to stay together long-term. Whenever I try explaining that I don’t plan to stay here forever, they immediately shut the conversation down.

Even during the immigration process, I kept telling my mom that I didn’t want to move, but I felt like I didn’t really have a choice. On top of that, I feel guilty because my aunt petitioned us, so wanting to leave feels like an utang na loob issue.

What can I realistically do if I genuinely don’t see myself staying in the U.S. long-term?

Processing

I am currently working in NZ and is planning to move to AU for another job. Do I need to go through the same process I did before when I moved here sa NZ or is the process easier if I am changing jobs from NZ to AU?

Do I need to process the same documents again with the PH government?

US NURSES.

Salamat!

My grandmother's name is wrongly spelled on my father's birth certificate. Is this a Potential problem with the Austrian Embassy when I applied for a residence permit?

Hello! For context: I’m currently in the process of gathering the necessary documents for my student residence permit application in Austria. The person sponsoring me is my grandmother’s sister’s Austrian husband, and I need to prove my relationship to him through the complete trail of birth certificates.

However, when I requested a copy of my father’s PSA birth certificate, I noticed that my grandmother’s name is misspelled there. I understand that my father’s birth certificate would normally need to undergo a correction process, but I’m running out of time. My classes are expected to start in September this year, and going through the correction process may cause significant delays.

I would like to ask if there is any quicker alternative. Is there perhaps another way to prove that the mother indicated on my father’s birth certificate. despite the misspelling, is indeed my grandmother?

Thank you very much! TT

In How Many Realistic Years Can I Achieve it?

Hello! 27M, I am planning to migrate to AU. Though I haven't started the process yet, I am a solar engineer in PH. Looking sa bigger picture, I want to know if achievable ba yung gusto kong mangyari.

  1. To go sa AU to work and aim sa PR.
  2. Dalhin din ang girlfriend (in the marketing industry) ko and live with her
  3. Dalhin ang nanay at tatay ko with us

How many years would it take para magawa itong plan ko? I want to get an idea since I am earning 100k a month right now sa PH and is weighing if ipupush ko pa ang pag migrate kasi I really want na kasama ko rin and parents and future wife ko. Thank you

Migrating before 40s

Currently 30yo and a stay at home mom. I used to work in kitchens but since lapse na yung years of experience, di ko na magamit for application. Thinking of learning a new skill such as welding or caregiving, earn experience here and then try to migrate. Is it possible? Or any tips. Thank you!

how to get a job in the US with PH education?

hi! i'm a 21 yr old female, currently finising up my degree in communications here in the PH. was wondering if anyone knows if its possible to land a job as a fresh graduate in the US (probably NY or CALI). i'm already a US citizen, so migrating legally won't be a problem at all, it's just that all my education background & internship experiences are based here in the PH. i'm mapping out the future & plan to move to the US on my own (paying everything on my own)

the main issue is just landing a job over there w/ PH background, if anyone can share any resources/insights on my situation, feel free to reply or dm me & let me know! literally anything will help!

thanks!

Qantas Airways from Manila to Sydney

Anyone tried travelling with Qantas from Manila to Sydney around late June?

I’m moving to Sydney on the last week of June and booked Economy already, but unfortunately no exit row seats were available anymore.

I tried bidding AUD 800 for a Business Class upgrade (separate from the actual economy ticket price).

Any success stories with Qantas Bid Now upgrades for MNL-SYD? Especially for cash bids only and no status.

Also, are flights usually very full around late June? Hoping sana na hindi gaano busy so i could have a real chance na makuha ung business at a low price (AUD 700 was the minimum bid required).

Thanks!
