Anyone else mourn characters after finishing a book?

How do you all deal with finishing a book and immediately missing the characters?

I just finished a duology and I’m sitting here in this weird mourning period where I miss people who were never real. It’s such a specific kind of sad, you spend hours living inside someone else’s head, rooting for them, worrying about them, and then the story just… ends. There are no more updates on their life and no closure beyond what the author gave you.

As a writer myself, this always makes me think about the responsibility that comes with creating characters people get attached to. When I’m writing, I sometimes forget that readers will carry these people around in their heads long after the last page. It’s a strange kind of power.

Does anyone else get genuine book hangovers like this?

What’s the last book/character that left you like this, and how long did it take you to move on to something new?

New here — ghostwriter, designer, digital creator 👋

Hi everyone! My name is JoVyn I’m new here, figured I’d actually introduce myself instead of just lurking.

I’m a ghostwriter, a graphic designer for brands and businesses, and a digital creator on the side. Basically I write for other people, design for other people, and post my own stuff for me.

Looking to connect with fellow writers and designers, swap ideas, and just be around people who get the work.

Nice to meet you all 🎀

What do you do / what are you working on?
