Anyone working on Study Visa for 26-27 academic year?

Hi folks,

I’m an incoming master’s student at University of Torino starting this fall. I’ve been working on my visa through the Consulate of Los Angeles. The only thing that the Consulate deemed missing from my visa application was an enrollment letter from the university with a wet signature, stating acceptance to and details of the program.

I was under the impression that the summary sheet from Universitaly pre-enrollment (which was approved for me) would suffice, but it didn’t. I emailed my International Students office. Still waiting to hear back.

Doesn‘t a wet signature imply a physical letter from the university? Wouldn’t that cause a delay? Apparently my pre-enrollment application was “shared” with the Consulate according to my Universitaly portal. But I’m not sure what to expect here.

Thanks for input!

Is it better to front-load tourist travel in Schengen during the first 90 days of study visa while waiting for PdS?

Hi there, I'm an American who will be coming to Italy soon on a student visa for a 2-year master's degree program. My understanding is that the waiting process for a PdS can take several months, and my 90 day tourist privileges in Schengen will expire, which means I won't be able to travel to Schengen until I have a physical PdS in-hand. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

So it it recommended to front-load my Schengen travel during my first 90 days in Europe using my USA Passport in case my PdS takes more than a few months?

Thanks!

Travel with two cats from California to Italy - best itinerary?

hi there,

context: im moving to Italy in September to go to grad school. my two cats are coming with me. that much is decided. however I’m trying to figure out the best itinerary, which I need to decide soon in order to get my visa processed. we are traveling from California to Torino (northern Italy).

background: my cats do not enjoy travel. they don’t freak out, but they whine the entire time and tend to soil their carrier. we just did an 8 hour drive together and they were dosed with Gabapentin the night before and morning of, and no food or water after midnight. they did fine, but they pretended like they were dying, naturally.

anyways, here are some options! looking for insight, advice, and anecdotes.

A) “rip the band-aid off”: fly from CA to Milan with a layover in europe; transit from Milan to Torino — probably at least 20 hours travel?

B) punctuated: fly from CA to east coast; stay for a few days to reset; fly to Milan (7-8 hr flight) and transit to Torino (2 hours by train/car)

C) extra-punctuated: fly to east coast (5-6 hr flight); stay a few days; fly to a city in Western Europe and stay a few days (7-8 hr flight); fly direct to Torino (1 1/2 hr flight).

grateful for your thoughts. Thank you!
