The Halcyon Gearworks on Zitron V is the envy of mega-corporations across the Sonora sector. This automated factory produces machine parts of virtually every kind of machine used in the frontiers of space. From star ship engine parts to ground car replacement parts the factory does it all. And it does it with record speed and efficiency. Humans have been eliminated from the equation. An automated factory with androids and robots running the process costs have been brought to a bare minimum. The Halcyon corporation has recorded record profits.

But not everyone is pleased by this development. Rival mega-corporations are losing money as a result. Disgruntled human factory workers are walking picket lines in front of the factory daily. And even former company officials have been laid off as a result of the lack of need for human supervision on the factory line.

Anders Baker is a corporate officer of the Venusian Corporation. His company is a rival to Halcyon and is one of the many losing money now that the Gearworks are online. He is offering CR 300,000 for a special team to do a special mission for him. He wants the Gearworks put out of action. And he wants it to look like the work of disgruntled former workers.

Oceanus is a Class B star port on the water world of Veliere II. It is one pf the finest star ports on the edge of the Sonora sector and unexplored space. But the star port has had a few problems lately and is looking for a little help getting things sorted out. They need a few trouble shooters that can help the star port clean up it’s problems and get back to first class service for it’s visitors.

The star port is located on one of the largest islands and is known for transporting large quantities of fish and whale blubber from this world to various worlds across the Sonora sector.

Porter Hanson is the star port manager. He is offering CR 300,000 for a weeks work solving problems and getting the port back to the state it should be in.

While in star port the travelers return to their ship to find a peculiar thing. A small audio disc has been left in the pilot seat of the ship. If it is played the following message will be heard:

“Ladies and Gentlemen.......

A dangerous situation has developed which we believe you are suited to handle. With your specific skills and abilities the IMF force has determined that you are uniquely suited to the following mission:

It has come to our attention that General Phillipe Duran has acquired a planet busting warhead capable of destroying even the largest worlds in the Sonora sector. This ruthless dictator lives and rules his home world of Dravana Prime from a well guarded mountain villa which is extremely well guarded and considered to be impenetrable by the Dravanese government.

General Duran intends to use this high tech warhead to extort from the wealthiest worlds in the Sonora sector. Fear of possible total destruction will cause many of these governments to hand over billions of credits to the General and his government.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to visit this world and take possession of this warhead. This should be done, preferably, without the knowledge of the General or his government. A followup strike by various Sonoran governments will finish the matter once the warhead is no longer in Dravanese possession.

Should you or any member of your team be caught or killed, the Secretary will disavow any knowledge of your actions You will be extremely well compensated for this mission if successful.“

The Avaricious Mining Company has been doing surveys of systems all along the borders of the Sonora sector and unexplored space. The company is constantly searching for potential mineral deposits on unknown and unexplored worlds along the edge of the sector. This is a relative new player in the mining industry and they are seeking to make a splash with a major score.

One of their survey teams has detected some unusual anomaly on a world designated as XH3-J5. This world is an ice planet. The entire place is frozen over solid. There is a great deal of water beneath the ice as well as major continents under the frozen tundra. The anomaly is deep beneath the solid ice. Perhaps even miles beneath it. The survey team did not make a visual inspection as conditions on the planet are severe and quite dangerous to those without the proper skills or gear for survival on such a world.

Feng Yamamoto of the Avaricious Mining Company contacts the travelers while they are in port to discuss an important proposition at his office in town. He offers CR 300,000 for the travelers to visit this world and search for some way down to see what exactly is beneath the ice of this frozen world. Should the travelers find something of great value there he offers to give them a bonus of 15% of the value of whatever is there.

Thomas Abe is a polished and professional looking man. He seeks passage to the religious world of Wuringeia. This world is located in the Sonora sector and is well known for producing it’s own version of the bible. This world is known to be very strict in regards to religious observance and customs.

Abe claims to be a religious scholar and has serious interest in the religious libraries on Wuringeia. He is willing to pay CR 100,000 for immediate passage to this world if he can be brought there within a fortnight. He has little in the way of baggage or cargo. This visit could easily be paired with some sort of trade mission. The Wuringeians often need mechanical parts, textiles, food and other such things brought to their planet. One could easily make a good profit on this deal.

Zhen Murphy is a stock broker. He has been toiling away on the financial planet of Gorianz III for years with little to show for it. But he has a plan. A plan that he knows will get him to the riches that he deserves.

The Andromeda Mega Corporation has it’s tentacles in many industries in the Sonora sector. It own factories on several worlds that produce different types of goods. The company has been doing very well in recent years and it’s stock price is at an all time high. Zhen would like to change this, rather suddenly, and profit by it.

He approaches the travelers after doing a thorough investigation of their backgrounds. He believes that they are the sort of individuals who could do what he needs done with the discretion to keep it quiet. Besides....he intends to have them killed in any event......

He needs a few factories to be sabotaged so that the Andromeda stock price takes a plunge.

He offers CR 300,000 for the travelers to visit three different worlds and sabotage three different factories. He offers a bonus of CR 200,000 upon completion of the mission if the sabotage goes undiscovered.

The travelers are approached by a naval officer from the Pembian Empire. The Empire has had a hostile relationship with another entity living in the same sub-sector. The Rysnian Federation is a military alliance of like minded worlds living in the same sub-sector with the Empire. The two entities have had a few skirmishes but no major conflicts.

The Empire, however, has plans for expansion. But there is little in the way of unclaimed planets in this part of the Sonora sector. Most of the unclaimed planets are unclaimed for a reason. One is a desert world. One is a vacuum world. Another is an active manufacturing hub with many friends and allies. In order to expand the Empire needs to win a decisive victory against the Federation and claim some of their territories as “reparations” after the war concludes.

The Empire has a plan. They want to initiate a devastating first strike on a Rysnian Naval base at the planet Rangesogal. This world is a vacuum world populated only be a few scientists. The naval base is located at the second moon to this planet. What the scientists are actually doing on Rangesogal is unknown.

Navy Lieutenant Quentin Kim of the Pembian Empire offers CR 500,000 for the travelers to do “a little prep work” before this attack begins. This work will consist of espionage, sabotage and other acts which will aid in the success of the Pembian attack.

The Revelation Survey Company has recently made an unusual discovery during a routine mining survey of Planet X-231B. This newly discovered world is on the edge of the Sonora sector in unexplored space. It is a barren, rocky, world with little in the way of valuable mineral resources. The survey team found no appreciable minerals to exploit on the planet surface but did find some trace elements deep beneath the planet crust which would require extensive operations to dig out. Generally mining companies in the region will bypass such worlds to look for easier opportunities.

The team did find one thing of note.....however.....

A very old alien structure on a hill top suggests that some alien culture once found something of value from this world. The survey team did not visit the structure or try to explore it. The structure appeared to be a tower rising from the top of the hill.

X-231B is a vacuum world with little or no atmosphere at all. No “known” claims of ownership exist for this world. No mining markers or other such indications of a claim were found.

Noam Pérez contacts the travelers while they are in star port. He is looking for a team to visit X-231B and investigate this tower. He is seeking for the team to find something that would make X-231B of value to his company and advance his own interests at the company. He offers CR 300,000 for this expedition.

While in star port the travelers are summoned into the presence of the Port Authority Director
Santino Nakamura. Santino has a problem. Actually....he has several problems......

It seems that some ships are in port right now. These ships arrived in the port days ago. But there are no crews to these ships. According to records each of these ships arrived before they even departed from their point of origin. The crews are missing but the cargo is intact. As are the ships themselves. Life support seems to be functioning as normal.

Records also indicate that these ships transmitted docking requests from systems that they had not yet visited. One of the ship’s log shows sensor recordings of a stellar event (nova) which has not yet occurred. It will not occur for another two weeks. And some of these ships logs mention the individual travelers by name!

Santino offers CR 300,000 for the travelers to investigate this matter and get to the bottom of it.

Amdus IX is a heavily populated world in the Sonora sector. This is an industrial world known for producing everything from ground cars to small star ships and everything in between. The cities on this world are massive with skyscrapers literally touching the sky.

A recent outbreak of Sonoran Encephalitis has caused some concern among the leadership of Amdus IX. Simon Kim is a low level government official from Amdus IX. He is seeking a crew to pick up a load of Sonoran Encephalitis to bring to Amdus IX to help relieve the epidemic of this disease.

The vaccines can be picked up from Hagin Secunda which is only six parsec from Amdus IX. He offers CR 300,000 for bringing these much needed vaccines to his world.

While in star port the travelers are approached by a soldier. He is a representative of others from his home world of Gandar VI. This world is on the edge of the Sonoran sector near the border with unexplored space. It is a back water world ruled by a harsh military dictator named Ben Anderson.

Life is difficult on this world for the people who live there. The military dictatorship that rules this world enforces strict laws. People who oppose the government, or who are heard saying such things in public, often disappear in the middle of the night. The secret police are everywhere on this world. There seems to be nothing that they do not know.

Army Lt Colonel Logan Petrov approaches the travelers with a proposition. He, and others, are seeking to overthrow the current dictator of their world and install a democratic republic to rule their world. But they need a little help. They need someone to conduct a precision raid on the imperial palace of Gandar VI and kidnap Ben Anderson. Anderson is to be removed from power and exiled to another world. He offers CR 300,000 for performing this mission.

This is an adventure for Swords & Wizardry levels 8-10 written by me.

Standing on a small hill near the town was a tower belonging to Zorbo the Magnificent. Zorbo was a powerful wizard known for traveling the planes and commanding demons to do his bidding. He was greatly respected, and feared, by the local populace. But then....suddenly....he and his tower disappeared.......

No one has seen him, or his abode, in nearly fifty years. Not only did the tower disappear....but so did the hill that it sat upon..... Now suddenly...it has returned. It now stands just on the edge of the town. The town has grown a bit in the intervening years and now the tower is right on the outskirts.

The locals are, of course, terrified. Where did the tower go for so long? And why has it returned? Is the wizard back? What horrible things has he brought with him this time? No one in the town has dared go into the tower. Perhaps some brave adventurers will do so. After all.....a tower like that must have some valuable treasures......right?

The travelers are met by Jamus Winders, a case officer for the Sonoran Interstellar Police (SIPOL). SIPOL has been investigating strange financial transactions from Sonoran banks. Recently a planet was purchased by an entity that SIPOL does not believe exists. They have done a little investigating on their own and have determined that the “entity” which is known as “Overlord” is actually a computer program and not a corporation or person. Why this “artificial intelligence decided to buy it’s own planet is unknown. But SIPOL and other Sonoran authorities are concerned.

They want someone outside of law enforcement to go to this newly purchased planet and find out what is going on there. Oribus II is a non industrial world on the edge of the sector in previously unexplored space. The population there has not complained about the new planetary ownership nor has the local government in place there.

Or did any of this really happen?

During the initial investigation by the travelers they determined that everything about this deal seemed a bit......off......

All the clues seem to point to the idea that the travelers themselves......are living inside of a computer simulation and are not real at all........

Only a thorough investigation by the travelers, er the players, will reveal if any of this is real or just imagination of some artificial intelligence entity.
