I have 4 root canal treated teeth and none of them currently have crowns.
- 2 were treated about 2 years ago
- 2 were treated within the last few months
I’m trying to figure out whether crowning each tooth still makes sense, especially for the older ones. My concern is whether some of them may already be structurally weakened enough that adding a crown now would not significantly improve long-term prognosis.
What factors should I look at to determine:
- which teeth are highest priority for crowns
- whether a tooth is still considered “restorable”
- when a crown is strongly recommended vs optional
For context:
- I’m interested in understanding things like remaining tooth structure, fracture risk, ferrule effect, molar vs front tooth differences, etc.
- I do plan to see a dentist, but I want to better understand the decision-making framework beforehand.
Would appreciate insights from dentists or people with long-term experience with uncrowned root canal teeth.
