Bitte helft mir. Ich suche verzweifelt nach der o.g. Redewendung.

I'm so elated with my purchase of yet another Zippo.

This is Zippo A-XIV. So this particular Zippo rolled off the production line in January of 1998. Let's discuss. The Y2K Era (1996-2005). I use lighters, amongst other things, as „TIME TRAVEL MACHINES“. So let's travel back to January 1998. Gran Turismo 1 and Titanic film have just been released in December of last year in 1997. Feel the vibes? See Rose's hand at the back of the car? Now take a close look at the art work of this lighter. The art work of this lighter, its colors beautifully captures the Y2K Era. That's how the internet exactly looked like in 1998 if you happen to be old enough to have used the internet in 1998. The internet was a completely different landscape back then. And you had cellphones such as Nokia 5110, Nokia 3210 and Nokia 7110. 1998 is also the birthyear of Google and the CIH-Virus. The art work of 1990s internet is rather playful and cheeky, hence the playful and cheeky look of Google's and Ebay's logo. The logo of Google and ebay will give you a hint as to what era these companies were born. And those colorful transluscent computer cases. Still remember those computer cases? And not only that. And HEADS-UP: "Fully-painted bottom stamp". That's another retro-feature from the Y2K Era of Zippos. Modern painted Zippo have an unpainted bottom stamp. And mind you, Zippos from this era already have a different "LIGHTING FEEL" from Zippos from the current Zippos of 2020s. Amongst other things, the dimensions and the curvature on the sides are different. You can feel it. Because as "TIME TRAVEL MACHINES", you get to experience the trends, technology, systems, production methods and materials of the past. It may be the same brass, but still looks and feels different. The composition and overall craftmanship is different.

Loving so much this Zippo No. 200 (Plain Brushed Chrome) ... A True Timeless Classic Zippo. 🔥 It isn't displayed as a Giant Neon Sign Zippo on top of Zippo's HQ without a reason.

And also, I never knew Armor Zippos have a beautiful "LIGHTING FEEL"—The sensation you feel in your fingers and palm as you use it. Amongst other things, the feedback you feel in your wrist as you shut the lid close. I am now a fan of Armor Zippos. The closest it could get in terms of "lighting feel" to a 1968 Zippo. The 1968 Zippo case has right about the same thickness and weight as an Armor Zippo. Back in the 1960s, we all know there were no Armor Zippos. Actually the 1938 Zippo has quite a thin case, then they made the cases thicker and thicker until about 1968 and then gradually made it thinner again and then in 2005, released the Armor Zippo.

My Evans Liftarm Lighter. This is to be the oldest lighter model of the Evans Case Company and also the oldest lighter in my collection so far.

My Evans Liftarm Lighter in Golfer Style as seen in the 1929 Evans Print Ad:

https://www.toledo-bend.us/VCL/showad.asp?name=Evans%201929&item=ad_Evans_1929_3,

Patented in 1927 with Patent Number 72965, made by The Evans Case Company of North Attleboro, Massachusetts. My most favorite, my most beloved, the lighter I love most in my tobacciana collection. 🔥

________________________________________________________________

Don't you just love its luscious opulent Art Deco Styling? The Evans Liftarm Lighter, which was to be the earliest lighter model made by the Evans Case Company, patented in 1927 and produced during the late 1920s to the early 1930s. You can see and feel the Art Deco vibes of these lighters given the timeframe these lighters have been made. The Evans Liftarm Lighter was succeeded by Automatic (introduced c. 1929) - Roller Bearing (c. 1929 - 1934) - Trig-A-Lite (c. 1934 - 1940) - "Spitfire (c. 1940) - Clipper (c. 1940) - Banner (c. 1940) - Supreme (a taller version of the Banner c. 1940) - Tube - Petite (a very short version of the Banner c. 1940) - Esquire (late 1950s) - Breeze King (mid 1950s).🔥

Dating back to and patented in 1927 by Alfred F. Reilly and Carl J. Lagerholm. Patent 72965. The Evans Liftarm Lighter. Alfred F. Reilly was the Owner and President of Evans Case Company of North Attleboro, Massachusetts.

It was simply called the Evans Lighter when it was released and came in various finishes. In this example, I got the Golfer with Art Deco Engine-Turned Styling. See the photos of my Evans Liftarm Lighter in Golfer Style in the comments section. Back then from 1928 to 1930, the Golfer Evans Liftarm Lighter retailed at $9.

Timeline of Evans Lighters and History of the Evans Case Company 🥂

Order of Evans Lighters: Lift Arm (mid-1920s - early 1930s) - Automatic (introduced c. 1940) - Esquire (late 1950s) - Breeze King (mid 1950s). The Oval style was produced in Roller Bearing, Trig-A-Lite, and Spitfire models.

The Evans Company first started out as a handbag and accessory manufacturing company, originating from Attleboro, Massachusetts as a novelty company in 1918. However, by the late 1920’s, the company took on a different path and began to manufacture lighters with a “lift arm system”. This system is very similar to the one used by the Alfred Dunhill Company – minus the fact that the flint wheel was located vertically, rather than horizontally. Many lighters were manufactured by the Evans Company with this “lift arm system” with a variety of attractive styles, including enameled cases. In addition, the Evans Company produced complementary cigarette cases and perfume sprays.

Soon after, the “lift arm system” began to lose popularity with the onset of a new lighter system – the Ronson system, which was clearly more user-friendly. Another version of the Ronson system was launched by the Evans Company, called the Trig-A-Lite. However, the Ronson Company noticed the similarities between the two systems and ultimately filed a lawsuit against the Evans Company for copyright issues. The lawsuit continued on for several years, until the Ronson Company finally won and received their settlement from the Evans Company.

In the 1940’s and 1950’s, the Evans Company was known to manufacture a large variety of decorative lighters. These uniquely shaped lighters were adorned with enameled bases and were even available in the shapes of different fruits. The interior of the lighter was the same for all the models. The uniform lighter unit was useful because it was able to fit in any sort of shape and design, and thus it was utilized for many years to come. As times changed, the old system was replaced with butane. The Evans Company introduced a butane system in the same size as the original decorative bases to facilitate the change. The Evans Company continued to manufacture lighters into the early 1970’s.

Relishing Art Deco. Art Deco in Cigarette Lighters. Art Deco down to its Evans brand name logo engraving on top and its overall shape. And those luscious Art Deco details on the front and back. My Evans Liftarm Lighter produced from 1927 to the early 1930s.

Art Deco really is a great era. Look, even the liftarm bar itself is not just a mere piece of bar but a work of art. This is just one of the many Art Deco styles of the Evans Liftarm Lighter produced by the Evans Case Company of North Attleboro, Massachusetts.. I happen to have the Golfer Style as seen here from the 1929 Evans Print Ad: https://www.toledo-bend.us/VCL/showad.asp?name=Evans%201929&item=ad_Evans_1929_3

Was würdet ihr lieber sagen?

Was sagt ihr dazu? Siehe unten den Wörterbucheintrag:

Unter Bedeutung Nr. 3:

Wie heißt „Neon Sign“ auf Deutsch? Nennt man das Leuchtreklame auf Deutsch? Da bin ich mir aber nicht sicher.

Wie z. B. hier: (Oberstes Bild unter „Unternehmenshistorie“)

Unternehmenshistorie – Zippo Austria

Da gibts viele davon in Times Square, New York.

Was bedeutet das eigentlich?

The Crystal Arcade on Escolta Street was designed by renowned Filipino Architect Andrés Luna de San Pedro (1887–1952). Inaugurated in 1932, this masterpiece of Art Deco and Streamline Moderne style was considered the most modern building of its time in the Philippines, featuring massive glass elements and the city's first air-conditioned commercial spaces. Sadly destroyed in 1945 during the Battle of Manila. Included are shop spaces occupied by Japanese spies, namely "Board of Tourist Industry" and "Nanyo Produce Exchange".
