June 2026 Book Club winner - Captive Prince

Thank you to all who voted for June’s Book Club read with the theme of queer romance.

The winner is {Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat}!

Captive Prince is the first book in a trilogy of the same name.

The story follows Damen, a warrior-prince and heir to the throne of Akielos. However, Damen is stripped of his title and identity after a coup, and sent to the enemy kingdom of Vere as a pleasure slave to Prince Laurent.

To survive and save his country, Damen must hide his identity and navigate the lethal political web of the Veretian court, eventually realising he and his captor must work together.

Update: Of Blood and Fire paper weight, chapter headings, and continuation

After yesterday’s email about the removal of the ghost edge from the Of Blood and Fire Eternal Edition (see this post about it), I contacted TBB with some questions about the page thickness and the continuation of the series. I figured I’d share the answers here in case it’s helpful for anyone.

TBB confirmed the paper is printed on 80 gsm Munken Premium acid-free. The illustrated chapters headings are also smaller than the initial mock-ups showed:

>“This is the weight that would allow us to print at the same cost as the price of the book we've offered. If we were to thicken the pages with the coloured designs, the costs would have been significantly increased for customers, which we want to avoid. We could have gone for a different paper material for thicker pages, though this would have been at a sacrifice to the overall longevity and quality of the print. Our decision is based on cost-effectiveness and the highest possible quality of paper for the price point. The full colour printing of the chapter headings remains, which has not changed; the scale has been altered from the first design.”

They also said they want to provide the specs originally planned for the contribution for the series:

>”For the future prints of the Bound and Broken series in the Endless Edition, we will want to provide the specs as originally intended, hence the negotiations with a new supplier to be able to achieve this moving forward.”

Books with a religious MC or major religious theme

I’ve been slowly mapping out which books I want to read for the Diverse Reading Challenge. For the ‘MC from a different culture’ prompt, I’m hoping to read a book with a religious main character or where religion plays a major part in the story.

The religion itself doesn’t matter - real of made up - but I don’t want the religion to be a bad actor or turn out to be a lie.

Bonus points if the book is own voices or written by an author from a marginalised or underrepresented community.

Does anyone know a book recommendation like this?

Hi all! It’s the beginning of a new month, which means it’s time to nominate the books for the June 2026 Book Club. Next month is Pride Month, so we’re looking for nominations that fit the theme of queer romance.

##What we are looking for

  • We’re looking for any speculative fiction book with a queer romance arc between the main characters.
  • For the purpose of the nominations, we define queer romance as any romance pairing outside heterosexual and cisgender norms.
  • Standalones are preferred, but not mandatory. If it’s a series, please only nominate the first book.
  • The book cannot have been a Book Club read before and the author cannot have been previously featured in the Book Club in the last eighteen months. See the Book Club Hub.

Nominations that do not fit these criteria will be removed.

##Nominations

Here’s how to nominate a book:

  • One nomination per comment.
  • Please call the romance.io bot for your nomination by putting the title and author within curly brackets {}.
  • You can nominate more than one book, but please put them in separate comments.
  • Upvote the books you most would like to read for Book Club!

##Voting

The most upvoted nominated book will be up for vote in a separate post on 8 May. The winner will be announced on 15 May.

##May Book Club

Welcome to the final discussion for {This Kingdom Will Not Kill Me by Ilona Andrews}, for this month’s book club theme of books published between October 2025 and March 2026.

We’ll be discussing the entire book, so no need to hide any spoilers!

Here are some questions you could answer to get the discussion started:

  • Besides Everard, there are some other potential love interests popping up throughout the story. Do you have a favourite, who do you think has the best chemistry with Maggie?
  • It’s revealed that the timeline was already off before Maggie started changing things. What do you think caused the timeline/plot of the story to change?
  • Do you think these deviations have to do with the reason Maggie was isekai’d?
  • Did you enjoy the book? Were there any moments you found difficult or challenging? If so, why?
  • Are you planning to continue the series?

In case you missed it, the second discussion up to chapter 29 has been posted on 20 April. Other previous book club discussion can be found in the Book Club Hub.

Upcoming Book Club dates:

  • May 1 - June nominations
  • May 8 - June voting
  • May 10 - First discussion for The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy (up to chapter 8)
  • May 15 - June announcement
  • May 20 - Second discussion for The Irresistible Urge to Fall For Your Enemy (up to chapter 15)
