Why is the hierarchy series is so expensive?
I can't imagine the demand being so high that a single book goes for £266.
It is a glued binding with a fancy edge and a few exclusive illustrations.
It is more expensive than a dragonsteel leatherbound.

I have seen other reviews of others showcasing their Hyperion collection , and the picture card they recieved ....theirs had what can only be described as a mother of pearl type effect .....so anyone else had one like that ? Or was it just luck of the draw ? Thanks
As an update to my last posts about this
I have informed the European Consumer Center (ECC) in my country. They took my report seriously and immediately forwarded it to the ECC in the UK. That department works closely together with Trading Standards.
TBB seems entirely unwilling to even acknowledge their responsibilities and have made the decision to both cancel my order without my consent and falsify their data to make it seem like it was by my request, which it was not (!). If their unwillingness before was frowned upon, this is straight up illegal and baffles me.
I also forwarded this to the ECC, which will likely escalate
things for them.
My intention with these posts is to inform other EU customers to know their rights as a consumer within the EU, specifically when you ordered the The Echoes Saga set, like me.
Know your rights, especially when The Broken Binding actively lies to you about it.
Relevant laws and information can be found in previous posts
I know certain comments will arise from this, like with previous posts and so I will address them below:
"Why make such a big deal out of it? Just cancel it"
Customers are protected from this type of stuff (at least in the UK and the EU) and I still want the set. I shouldn't have to pay for their mistakes.
"They cancelled it, so it is solved"
No, CRA15 (Consumer Law) tells me I have the right to enforce the sales contract and ask for compensation to cover my financial losses as a result of their mistake. Cancelling is an option if I so choose, which I do not, as I want the books still.
"Trading Standards won't help you with this"
They will, especially since this doesn't just affect me, but every EU customer. They are systematically scamming everyone of them, not just by not informing the, but by trying to cover it up too.
"It's only €3,-, you're just looking for an issue where there isn't one"
It is not just €3,-, it's handling fees on top of them, which can range from €6,- to as much as €40,- for some people. This was addressed in the comments in prior posts.
This page by Carra Globe explains in detail how these new tariffs will work
As requested, the anonymized e-mail correspondence between TBB and me:
If the times don't seem to match, that is because of the one hour time difference between the UK and the Netherlands
Are they planning on continuing the series for the tbb press editions?
This is NOT a complain, it was listed as damaged and I gambled, but I remember some people were interested of possible damages so I thought I’ll share!
Obviously, this will be different for every book, but I’m happy with this one - no regrets.
Question in title, I've been trying to get long lasting bindings of my favorite books, just wondering if they case bind or perfect bind the books.
What apps are people using to catalogue their books? I'm looking for something that can easily cater for special editions, even when ISBNs aren't displayed (such as with broken binding books).
I really like the earthy designs. They compliment each other really well.
I see that some of their editions are not sold even after two years of sales, free shipping, clearances etc. Meanwhile some editions are impossible to find and people are paying scalpers x5-10 of the original price just to get one.
So it looks like their printing numbers are skewed. I wonder how are they deciding what to print and how much?
If they made edition of a series than they have rights to print it, so they could print more of rare series that people really want, like do different edition as they did with The Dandelion Dynasty.
If anyone here is working in the industry, do you know how these decisions are made?
I picked up this new sci-fi release the other day, and I wanted to share it, because I believe people in this sub appreciate nice books and art.
I think it’s important to point out that this is a STANDARD edition, with standard £22 RRP.
It includes:
- unique endpaper art front and back
- 5 double pages of black and white art
- 12 bound coloured art on heavy paper
- foiling on the hardback
This is a debut, picked up by a small publisher.
I just found this after the notification the coloured headers will be tiny compared to the mock ups in the Of Blood and Fire endless edition, and I just got even more annoyed.
Again, this is a standard edition for £22. I would love to see more like this from publishers, clearly it CAN be done.
Hello lovely book collectors!
I wanted to share an update on some new features on RareBindings.net, the site I built to help keep track of all the special editions being released these days.
I recently added collection valuations, so you can now see an estimated value for your collection based on secondary sales data from eBay. The estimate shows a min / median / max range by aggregating recent sales data.
If a book does not have secondary sales data yet, you can choose to include the retail price as the basis for the estimate instead. I’ve also added recent sales data directly to book pages, so you can quickly check what similar editions have sold for. That should make it easier to price a book if you’re selling, or check whether you’re getting a fair deal when buying.
The site also supports saved searches and stock alerts, so you can keep an eye on specific books, authors, publishers, stores, or features without manually checking everything all the time.
RareBindings now supports:
- The Broken Binding
- FairyLoot
- Illumicrate
- OwlCrate
- Folio Society
- Subterranean Press
- Suntup Editions
- Grim Oak Press
- LitJoy
- Goldsboro Books
- Dragonsteel Books
- Moonlight Book Box
- The Locked Library
- The Bookish Shop
- Arcane Society
- Lit Escalates
- Waterstones
With more to come! As always, I’m building this as a collector myself, so feedback, bug reports, and store suggestions are very welcome.
Thank you!
I hope this won't come off as disrespectful to the author, but I am curious to know how well this edition is actually selling.
While this special edition is one of the more impressive editions hitting general shop this year(my opinion), the series itself doesnt seem to be as impressive.
So I thought it would be fun to do a little poll.
Received my first The Broken Binding order ever. It was the Of Blood and Bone Trilogy by John Gwynne. Started the Fantasy Subscription back in March and purchased these from the store. The box held up well given the journey from the UK to the US. Here's photos of my unboxing. Glad I can have this series in hardcover.
With the TBB Endless edition already out there, how would you rank the OBAF Special Editions in terms of quality, the company associated, aesthetic, and potential of being sought-after.
Well, obviously the original TBB (numbered) is on top so I'd like to see your insights on thre the others.
The entries are: North American Edition, TBB Endless Edition, Inkstone Edition, Topping & Co. Edition (did I miss any?)
I just got my notification that it is on the way!
Hi. Does anyone have a "refer a friend" code I could use? I want to get the Farseer trilogy from illumicrate but it's quite expensive especially with shipping to Australia. Can anyone help a book brother out? Edit: I am seeing a Rewards system they have, where you can do a bunch of things to build up points. One of those things is to send a referral code to a friend of £5 off their first purchase. That's $10aud for me so I'll take it if I can
Never used ebay. Do they have buyersprotection? I have heard there are a lot of scammers on ebay, but i might be fine if i just avoid the sales where it is too good to be true.
