Wishful Casting: Persuasion

I was devastated a few years ago when a new version of Persuasion starring Sarah Snook was scrapped because Netflix fast-tracked its competing version with Dakota Johnson. I’m not here to bash the modern version, I just really wanted a new, classic remaking because it’s my favorite book, and I think Sarah Snook would have been perfect for the lead.

I’ve started wishing for a new version again 😭, but I’m not familiar with up-and-coming actors right now. Please help me cast Captain Wentworth and Anne Elliott, and any of the other characters if you’re up for it. I will look them up and daydream lol.

Spider-man Brand New Day re: Deadpool vs Wolverine

I wonder if Spider-Man’s success has put a dent in any appetite Marvel might have had for a new Deadpool movie (what with Ryan Reynolds’ recent stunts to get one off the ground). Imagine being a Marvel exec watching Spiderman Brand New Day hit 1 billion in just six days on a $225 million budget while knowing that although Deadpool vs Wolverine was inarguably a huge success, especially for an R rated movie, it won’t make anywhere near that profit when in over two years it has made (from what I read) 1.33 billion on a 429 million budget and not only is part of that reason the fact that D vs W went wayyy over budget, but everyone now also knows part of that budget went toward the whole petty revenge against Justin Baldoni with Nicepool— down to creating that flower shop! His immature antics nearly got them dragged into a lawsuit, and they saw how he bad mouthed and even humiliated Sony studio executives to others by text and email. On the one hand, they know RR had A LOT to do with making Deadpool successful. On the other hand, it really went to his head and he has gotten out of control. They definitely could have made a bigger profit without his ridiculous petty vengeance.

All this to say, if there was ever a chance they were eyeing those DvW profits (because it is undeniable that DvW made a huge profit) and considering overlooking all the baggage that comes with RR INCLUDING the fact that there are a lot of people like me who vow never to watch him in anything ever again, in hopes of another possible fan-fueled payday, I wonder if seeing the absolutely mind blowing profits of Spider-Man, which must have been a much smoother process with no ridiculous budget-blowing petty revenge scenes plus huge micromanaging main star egos (I doubt Tom Holland throws tantrums) plus now knowing how he really talks about executives behind their backs… wouldn’t you just forget all about the headache and risk that is Ryan Reynolds and try to replicate Spider-Man’s success with either a Deadpool reboot or focusing on another beloved character?
