Need some help brainstorming ideas for some magic system concepts I've been chewing on lately
Currently I am working on a fantasy novel series in a shared setting
With this comes making a dozen or so magic systems. Currently I have a couple with the broad strokes down. Here are very brief descriptions of the ones I have down currently for reference:
Metallivory: metal consumption. Eat metals for brief physical enhancements. Can "surge" the metals for a special effect when making contact with another target. These effects have different designations being "Primer" and "Shatterer". A Primer leaves a continuous effect while a Shatterer makes one massive impact. The effects are multiplied when a Primer first primes a target for a Shatterer to then Shatter. Making for a dynamic "I hit then you hit" combat style for the "Monster Hunter" inspired world they live on.
Colloidurgy: Store your physical traits in metals so that you can enhance them later. This one I have hardly any work done because I'm working on ways to differentiate it from "Feruchemy" in Sanderson's Mistborn series. But I want it to for starters be a bit more limited compared to Feruchemy. No storing memories for example as that isn't really a "physical" trait.
Lithomancy: The ability to draw color from the environment and pull it into gemstones. These are the "mages" of my setting to a degree. By taking out the colors they can get various effects although I'm still working on WHAT exactly they can do with the colors. Think green lantern mages as their powers and colors are sourced in the "emotional plane" which is just the emotional spectrum from Green Lantern but epic fantasy.
Soul Stamps: This is less a magic system and more a specific application of Lithomancy. But it allows one to "print" more "soul" onto a creature. Effectively forcing more cognitive and emotional plane connection than was originally there. It makes everything you are "more" and can turn stone to living beings. A prominent race in my setting use Soul Stamps to breed more of their race and craft new members of their species out of stone. Another race is a race of snail people who uplift the various feral slug creatures by giving them shells that have stamps on them thus giving them sapient thought capabilities.
Melology: Also known as "soul melodies" and a derivative of Lithomancy. Melology can be used to "enthrall" inanimate objects or even people by playing their specific melodies. This requires the user to know and also be able to perform these melodies. For inanimate objects the songs are universal for all copies of an object (for example all chairs of a specific design will share their melody) while all living beings have highly complex melodies that are incredibly difficult to acquire. Currently working on how to make this magic have "levels" of power more and figuring out ways to incorporate how people learn and play these melodies.
Lykostrophy: Twilight magic although it isn't known as that to the ones using it as they have no concept of "Twilight". An attribute based system with two attributes in Skofos(Shadow) and Fosela(Light). Users can consume existing sources of shadow or light for various spell effects. They can only have one of these active at a time and must end the previous ability to activate a new one.
Hemohesty: Blood rending. By rending their own blood (burning it away while it still is inside of them) users of Hemohesty can control the properties of said blood. This is a purely internal blood magic and their blood does not leave their bodies for the abilities. They can harden their blood under the skin or enhance strength. They can physically "throw" or "launch" their blood towards a specific direction thus acting as a sort of rudimentary flight. Like a marionette that controls its own strings.
So these are the ones I have down right now. But I'm trying to come up with a magic system based on the movie "Hancock" but reverse. In the movie the "superman" type people get weaker when in the vicinity of eachother. My idea is the opposite of that. They ONLY have power when near their soulmate. I'm thinking of calling them "Cupics" but Im unsure what exactly to make their abilities because making them LITERALLY superman would destroy the power level of my setting (one of my highest power feats in my entire setting done by mortal hands is a guy breaking apart a moon that is actively entering their orbit into a gazillion pieces and that's considered an absurd unbelievable feat to most people in my setting and the guy dies like instantly afterwards)
I'm also thinking about turning Tautology into a form of magic system. Where things get more powerful the more you keep doing them. Like "Fa-Jin" from My Hero Academia but not JUST physical movements. But again I'm struggling to get past the initial spark of creativity there.
I also had an idea to make Cymatics into a form of magic but again. how the hell do I do that?
So please do let me know if you have any ideas for these listed systems of abilities you think would be really cool to see from them because I'm struggling with these last few to really make them feel substantial.
