Segmented Scales Practice
Trying to get better at segmented scales. This one is a 3ish” 89crv2 blade with segmented spalted tamarind, inlaid with stabilized amboyna burl. Pretty sweet sheath, too.

I’m calling this model the “Steak or Twine.” Probably be good for cutting either of those two items. Maybe other items as well. Anyway 80crv2, segmented scales with burlap and canvas micartas, inlaid with orange dyed stabilized maple burl. Red and black g10 liners. Made a pretty sweet multi tone leather sheath for it as well. Pretty pleased.
Hey guys. So I, being an idiot, have my vacuum rig stored on a shelf directly above my stone storage. And I, being an idiot, store the stones in open air. Through a series of missteps I spilled cactus juice all over my naniwa chosera / pro stones. Now water beads up and won’t soak in to the stones. I have been scraping the first one with an atoma plate for about an hour to try and resurface the stone but water is still beading up. Am I on a fools errand and out about $550 worth of stones or is there a better technique I should use? Googling this issue hasn’t brought much joy so I’m positng to this community to see if anyone has any idea.
80crv2 with stabilized amboyna burl scales that I cast with white thickset. The scales and the blade were both just smaller pieces from failed projects but I’ll be damned if I don’t really like this one.
Like this one a lot. Stabilized spalted tamarind scales and a hand stitched leather sheath.
Stone washed 80crv2 with stabilized amboyna burl scales. Paired it with a horizontal / appendix carry kydex and leather sheath.
This set turned out great I think. NJSB steel. I bought the spalted maple (90% sure it’s maple) from a local supplier. Dried, stabilized and cast it with white epoxy.
9” Gyuto and 5” petty. 52100. I stabilized some spalted tamarind for the handles and paired it with some Blackwood, blue g10 and brass. The block is some really gorgeous padauk I found. It was listed as “bacon cut” and the full plank actually did resemble a huge slab of bacon.
Just some stuff I’m trying to move to fund a grinder upgrade and a tiny little vacation. I’ve been more interested in kitchen gear lately.
