Whats this stuff on the resistors. I tried removing some gunk i removed the coating on the grey resistor. Is it still funtional or is this a hazard in some way? Sorry im not really knowledgable. I assume its there to hold them in place? Any insight is appreciated!

I had an ad on Facebook in search of a 36" curved crt for the game room. Someone reached out to me and gave me the option to go with a Sony xbr, JVC D series and that Hitachi crt. Thing is I went with the JVC. I love this thing but now I'm wondering if I dropped the ball not getting that Hitachi because after some research I realized what it was and apparently is rare. Did I mess up?
