What's the use of the black circular thing at the rear of the car, near the plate?

A desperate victim of the Tarzan attack
Often when I play this opening as Black, I face a very strong attack (f3-g4-h4) against my kingside castling. I am getting older and opposite castling fights aren't really my cup of tea.
- Is 3... g6 simply the wrong way to go?
- Is there a way to castle long for Black?
- Do you know any good book(s)? <=> Is "Tackling the Trompowsky & Torre Attacks: Including a Complete Answer to the Barry-Tarzan Attack" from Kotronias & Ivanov any good?
