May have pushed it a bit - after advice
Gidday all,
I’ve recently started running and i’m now encountering quite extreme joint pain.
To preface, I already had a relatively high level of fitness from my job which involved walking 10-15kms a day.
After a month of not doing that I decided to start running as my girlfriend is into it. I quickly progressed in both speed and distance with minimal effort and pain, but the past week has been very rough both on my joints and somehow my exhaustion too.
Ket points:
- I have not run in years
- I went from 0km to 10km in 3 weeks, achieved just over an hour on both 10km runs.
- Two days of rest following and I am now stuffed.
- Both times since I have experienced extreme joint pain in both knees and one shoulder; latter of which is likely an undiagnosed muscle injury from childhood (Dad was a harden up type)
- The only variable that has changed is shoes. I went from using hoka bondi 9’s to a pair of NB 1080’s
Essentially I want to know if I have pushed it too far and what kind of training regime i should be undertaking. Obviously I was stoked with 10k, and want to do it consistently, which up until the past two runs felt entirely possible.
Insight would be awesome, cheers.
