Am I making a mistake? Breaking up a long term relationship because I’m dying.

Please advise. I (f45) have terminal cancer. There is no hope that there might be some kind of cure. We are likely talking about less than a year. Probably less than 6 months.

I have been in a relationship for about 15 years with a very nice man (44 years old). It has certainly not always been smooth sailing, but he is the love of my life. We are not married, do not share children and do not live together, if it matters

He knows about my illness, and says he wants to stay with me, but at his age I feel like he’s wasting time. He can find someone else to start a life with- frankly he will have to now or later anyway. I feel like true love is selfless, and keeping him with me is cruel. But I feel like pushing him away is cruel too

My question- what would you do? I’m feeling so guilty. My family and friends care about me too much be truthful, so I’m hoping strangers can be honest.

Thank you all.
