Lot of my favorites didn't make the cut but they're there in spirit

One of my favorite parts of animated mediums will always be the gorgeous background art

To be more specific I'm looking for series that utilize metanarrative elements within them

Examples that I've already watched/read would be Princess Tutu, Monogatari, Utena, Orb, Revue Starlight, and Even Monsters Like Fairytales

I'm not looking for series that just have meta-humor, so not anything like 100 Girlfriends or Love is War
