A new doctor BLEW my mind: if you had losses, worth a read!!!
I’m 36 - first baby - very happy. 15 weeks 🥳
But in the past year (the first year I’ve been off birth control since age 15 lol) I had 3 other pregnancies that didn’t work out.
My practice has 5 doctors you rotate appointments through randomly - because all 5 alternate to be “on call” for births - so that way you’ve met them all before one of them (random scheduling fate) delivers your baby!
New doctor walks in - first thing he says: I’ve read your file - have any of the other doctors talked to you about the previous losses & why they may have occurred?
Me: no… I mean, from my own “googling” I figured it was chromosomal issues or not a viable embryo or I’m just… “old!” Haha?
He then explains:
- there is an autoimmune disease that can cause losses
- there is a simple blood test that can tell you if you have it
- all you have to do is take a blood thinner/anticoagulant preemptively to getting pregnant & it pretty much fixes the problem
- you wouldn’t necessarily know you have it - except for multiple losses in a row
My jaw was on the floor - we did the test.
This is so helpful if we want a second child AND helpful for this pregnancy.
The other doctors barely blinked when I made “jokes” that my husband looked at me this past year and I got pregnant - but then couldn’t stay*~~ ~~*pregnant.
One of them said: wow 4! that’s rough in one year!
But I don’t want sympathy!!! I want medical expertise!!!
I just wanted to share because I see so many posts here about loss and I’ve yet to come across this information. I know it might not apply to everyone - but please ask your doctor about this!!! I saw 3 other doctors - this was the first time anyone mentioned this.
Big hugs everyone! Advocate and ask questions and get tests!!!!! 💕💕💕
**update because I wrote this post total stream of consciousness and didn’t take the time to spell it out & received a few questions! Antiphospholipid syndrome 👍 hugs to everyone 💕
