Trip Report

10 day vacation with 8 full days in Oahu. Had great weather everyday except Wednesday night where it rained very hard for several hours where some streets got flooded.

The Good

  • Laylow Hotel - great location. Beds too soft - had to switch to a room that had a day bed which is firmer. Stay on the side opposite the pool otherwise it is noisy.
  • Hanauma Bay - Roberts Tour was cheap and vey convenient. Nice beach.
  • Kailua Beach - another nice beach on the leeward side. Took theBus $3 about an hour.
  • Waikiki Beach - another nice beach with beautiful views. Sunset was gorgeous.
  • Pearl Harbor - nice tour - make sure you make reservation. Took theBus $3 from Waikiki.
  • North Shore - convenient ENoa shuttle only $10.
  • Matsumoto Shaved Ice - North Shore
  • TheBus - convenient and cheap. Got the Holo cards before the trip. Easy to add money online.
  • Lam's - great food in Chinatown.
  • Diamond Head - nice hike beautiful views. Make sure to get early reservation. Took the Bus.
  • Paia - food is good. Liked the fish tacos. Had the mahi mahi sauteed which was not so good. Should has went with something blackened.
  • MOSA! Ice Cream
  • Bishop Museum - interesting museum. Good for a rainy day.

The Bad

  • Marugame Udon - had 2 meals. One was ok. The 2nd meal was pretty bad - didn't feel good luckily didn't get sick.
  • Traffic - Honolulu traffic is brutal. Just to get to the H1 is a challenge. That is one reason I did not rent a car. You need to budget travel time into any itinerary.
  • Waikiki Aquarium - very very small. Few exhibits. Hard skip.
  • Lots of very pricy restaurants in Waikiki. Example Taormina $50 spagehtti. Wish I found other restaurants the had tasty food that weren't crazy priced.
  • Makua Banana Bread  Haleiwa - why the hype? $12 for a super soggy small bread loaf. Threw it in the garbage.

Cheers.

8 days Oahu or visit Maui too

8 full days in Hawaii. Ten total but 2 are travel days. Plan on going to Oahu. Can spend all 8 there or split it up and go to Maui. If I go to Maui I want to stay in Wailea. Those resorts are very expensive!

CastellibEspresso Jersey

I am 6’1” 170lbs. Normally wear a L but got the XL after reading comments saying to size up for Castelli. Fit is too big - more of a club fit. Too late to return so I may keep or donate.

Fall Long Sleeve Jersey or Top

What are you guys wearing for cooler fall days down to 40F. Long sleeve jersey or top? The long sleeve jerseys are pretty expensive around $150. Not sure if a long sleeve top will have a snug fit like a jersey would.

Q36.5 Gregarius Jersey

I am 6'1" 170 lbs. I wear Pearlizumi L jersey. I have a Castelli Espresso Jersey XL that does have room in the torso (I sized up from my usual L) - it is more of a club fit so I am tempted to return it. What size Q36.5 Gregarius Jersey do you recommend?

Need Transperineal biopsy

Need to get TP biopsy. They recommend local anesthesia so that they get the procedure done in office. They can also schedule the procedure sooner. I asked about twilight sedation but that would push it out to August since they need ER time. Is the TP more effective detecting cancer with the subject under twilight vs local? By the way she said 90% patients have local.

25mm tire

Got a Trek 2.1. Came with 23mm tires. Last year put 28mm on rear and 25mm on the front(that is the max that will fit). Will a road bike with 30mm gives a much smoother comfortable ride?

Casaluna

Got a target casaluna down alternative medium pillow. After 1 week it has no support. I mostly sleep on my back but sometimes side. What is a good pillow? This is a rabbit hole…

Laundry Room color

Gonna repaint the laundry room. One wall has paneling that is about 4 ft high. Color suggestions? Stay with white? Paint the paneling a different color?
