More Titanium Series Shenanigans

I decided to get a few more Titanium Series ships for the collection and I’m finally content with my fleet 🫡😅. Originally, I’d gotten two Galacticas (for display and play). Then I picked up a Pegasus, and two more Galacticas. The boxed one because I’d love to meet Edward James Olmos one day and have him sign it. The Bill/Lee relationship on the show was an on-screen mirror of my relationship with my dad. And it’d mean so much to make it happen one day.

The Pegasus figure is fraking awesome. I love my Buckets. But I’d being lying if I didn’t appreciate the Beast’s “classic modernity” rendition of the original ship.

One more thing I noticed is that with the first two Galacticas I originally picked up, they had different finishes to them (see pic 3). The one “play” figure had a more metallic finish compared to the other three’s matte finishes. I reckon mass production and subsequent variations caused that. And because it was so distinct in the lot, I decided to throw a few coats of Tamiya TS-79 “Semi-Gloss Clear” to seal its finish and I think it looks fantastic in comparison (see pic 4).

Childhood Dream Achieved (Titanium Series)!!

When I was around 9 or 10 in 2005, I wasn't familiar with BSG. But I thought the ship was super cool. My mum and I went to Target one day and I saw the Hasbro Titanium Series ships on the shelf. I was a solid Star Wars fan at the time. And got Obi-Wan's Starfighter instead. I watched the RDM series my senior year of high school in 2012-13. And it still remains the greatest modern live action sci-fi show I've ever seen.

A week or two ago, I remembered BSG ships were in the Titanium series. And I corrected my childhood "mistake" and got two Galacticas! One to display and the other one to play with haha.

These things are awesome! Being diecast, having a solid feel, and the retractable flight pods!! I may get a viper or the Pegasus at some point. But this is a WIN after decades.

Does anyone else have some of these old ships from that toyline?

My Dad and I (1995-2024)

Today marks the second “passaversary” of my dad from Alzheimer’s.

He was the bestest friend I could’ve ever had. The person still look and live up to. He inspired and championed my love of music, cars, history, sci-fi, and so much more. He even trained me in the art of dad jokes. And we were both big fans of Michael Jackson and The Jackson 5/The Jacksons. Along with all of the Motown classics and jazz of the last century.

Being born in the late ‘40s and the sociocultural dynamics of that time regarding civil rights. His parents pushed him and his siblings to go above and beyond expectations. To be more than what people think and say you are. The same was passed down to me.

Of course, no relationship is perfect. When it came to pushing me to be the best, he could be the Joe Jackson to my Michael (whose death date is also today). And we could get into it here and there. I don’t regret a single time we didn’t see eye to eye. Because it was that effort that enabled me to become the first engineer in our family. Just like I don’t regret giving up my first engineering job out of college to come home and take care of him when he was diagnosed in 2022. There was always time for a career, but only so much time with the ones you love.

Watching him decline day by day as I took care of him was the most devastating experience of my life. And I would do it all over again for him.

I’m still trying to figure out who I am without him. But I know he will always be a part of me. I love and miss you. And I hope I’m continuing to make you proud every day.

EDIT: I am beyond truly grateful and touched by everyone’s comments here. The experience of the diagnosis, caregiving, and passing and time since then, has been an incredibly isolating and lonely journey. And for as grateful as I am to have supportive friends and family to keep me keeping on, none of them truly have the acute relatable experience with such a terrible thing. And I’m equally grateful for that just as well. This post gave me an opportunity to share and reflect on my dad when I’ve never given myself a chance to really feel what I’ve been feeling for a long while. And y’all have my most sincere appreciation for giving me the space to share my dad and love for him with the world. Thank you all so very much for your kind words, love, and support.

I hope I’m not thinking silly about this. But I feel fairly certain that Harute in AWOTT and Barbatos Lupus in the 4th IBO Op are subtly referencing Victory Gundam at the end of the first V Gundam Op.

What do y’all think? I’m curious to know if anyone else either noticed this or had a similar thought.
